Pretty disappointing crowd considering we had over 68,000 at the Gator Bowl two years ago and over 55,000 at the Music City Bowl last year. I guess the crappy end to the season kept Bulldogs fans at home, and Northwestern apparently doesn't travel well.

48k per the ESPN box score

First time under 60k since at least 2000. I have no idea if that number is official however.

Bowl attendance will most likely be down across the board this year.

"Still, the Gator Bowl’s average attendance in the past 10 years has been 70,192." Found this when trying to find today`s attendance. I would bet all of today`s bowls attendance numbers are down similarly.

Did they shut down the upper deck? Watching the game it didn't look like many, if any were sitting up top.

I would imagine the fans kind of took on the attitude of the coaches and team the last 5 weeks of the season. Which was "who gives a ****." Today didn't bother me at all. If the team doesn't care why the hell should I? Glad I didn't waste my money to see that crap.

I think William Gay Company was a difference

Two years ago the Gator Bowl recognized the employees of the William Gay Company and a LOT of fans stood up, most of which were in the end zone. This year, there was no such recognition and the end zones were empty.

Methinks the lack of those corporate tix were a big difference. No, we didn't have as many fans there as two years ago (although we filled our side) but Northwestern had a much better turnout than did Michigan.

Definitely looks that way. Citrus Bowl at 59K, Outback at 54K. Midweek games, questionable bowl assignments for certain teams, general social malaise, etc.
I'd say we had about 20k there today, down from the 25-30K of 2 years ago.

It wasn't shut down but may as well have been.

For all practical purposes, the upper deck was empty.

The lower sections were far from crowded. Some empty even.

Regardless what they announce, my best guess had actual attendance at a little under 50% of capacity. Let's say 35k showed up for argument purposes.

I haven't seen a single bowl this year that was packed. Even the Rose Bowl had a few empty seats, and the Peach seemed to have fewer than it did when we were there. The Orange, while much better attended than I thought it would be, had quite a few empty seats. Most of the match-ups have been terrible.
