AP Rankings for this week. Murphy #6???

I realize I am preaching to the choir on this, but why have polls if your voters are just plain stupid? Murphy lost to a team of ringers with a crap ton of money! These are sports writers. Sad commentary. It's a poll. I really shouldn't care. It's an uneducated opinion with an AP label slapped on it.

AP polls have long been a joke imo. I appreciate all our sports writers do, but some just have to be too loud with their thoughts.

Polls are just different peoples opinion and they have no crystal ball to go by but if they were not doing the polls then everyone would be mad. I find almost every year that the NCPrep final poll is as accurate as anyone can get. The NCHSAA goes by Maxpreps through the season but when it comes to doing the brackets the MaxPreps is way off what the NCHSAA does. I pay more attention to NCPrep but I wish it would go back to a top 10 or baker's dozen when conference play starts. Or even a top 15 or 16 would make it more interesting and different. Just my opinion.

No. AP still reports facts. They got the team's records correct at least.

Well AP is sports writers opinion, Maxprep puts thier formula which no one but Maxprep knows all of the criterias in thier formula put all the information in a computer algorithm and is completely mathematical for thier rankings. NCHSAA takes the Maxprep rankings and makes it part of thier formula and according to NCHSAA one thing they take out is any margin of victory that Maxprep may or not use and send it to a San Francisco base company computer who gives them the adjusted rankings.

To be exact it’s the AP. Starmount beat Mount Airy and has the exact record. Mount Airy is ranked and Starmount isn’t.

Starmount’s loss came to East Surry, who will most likely be the team to beat in the West.

Kings Mountain is top notch this year in 3A so Shelby was honestly not supposed to win that one

While the all the criterias in the Maxprep formula is not known they do seem to put stock in strength of schedule and maybe reward teams like Shelby even though they lost for playing not only a bigger 3A school but one that's ranked, because while AP and NCHSAA adjusted rankings have Shelby with at 3 , Maxprep has them at with a high str 22.3 rank #1.
The biggest difference I've seen in the three rankings is Midway not in the AP top 10 and Maxprep is #33 with low str -22.5. But NCHSAA has them ranked #2

I don’t think losing by 24 was anywhere on the radar. I would have thought Shelby would have been within 10 points.

Rankings are just rankings midway, you lose you drop. It always pans out either way. I can see Murphy at 6 just because of the loss, doesn’t matter to who. Won’t effect them any, they’ll either beat you or beat you up trying. Doesn’t matter to Shelby either. Cream rises, just the way it is.
