SEC and National pitcher of the Week.

22 2/3 IP

4-0 record against three ranked teams
20 strikeouts

Our softball team has always been limited by not having a stud pitcher. We've had good pitchers, but never a great one. Softball up to #19 in the polls after a good opening week knocking off Texas Tech (best pitcher in nation), Nebraska and Penn State.

Didn't we have a stud pitcher for the last 2 or 3 years?

Nope. Aspen was a good pitcher who had a great weekend at Florida State a couple years ago to get us to a Super.

19-9, 3.15 ERA as a fifth year senior - it was her only year where she won more games than she lost.

35-27 with a 3.03 ERA career.

She had an awesome weekend in that regional.

So basically, she was the softball version of Justin Pigott. 7-7 with a 4.51 ERA in 2007. But he shut out #2 Florida State in the winners bracket in Tallahassee to get us to the super regional vs. Clemson.

I always appreciated him trying to bring justice when football players were breaking into rooms at Hathorn and stealing all our stuff

One of my favorite bulldogs. I don’t remember the 7 loses. I just remember him being an automatic win in the second half of the season. And the 83 pitch complete game. The maroon and white version of Greg Maddox. If my memory is fuzzy, that’s your problem. Respect my truth.

Here we go again...........We go thru this **** every year..........We start off with a bang and everyone gets all worked up only to finish in the bottom third of the league...........We shall see but if history is any indicator, well...............I do agree about historically lacking that one dominant pitcher.......We'll see how this plays out.............

Haven't you heard. The SEC is the best Football, Basketball, Baseball, Women's Basketball, Softball, conference in the entire world! If your program finishes in the bottom 1/3, they are still better than the bottom 2/3 of every other conference! So State is right where State is supposed to be in the modern era of SEC Athletics!

I agree. The SEC is loaded again, and having Texas and Oklahoma in the conference makes the conference even better.

They have a shot to rack up a gaudy record between now and conference season. Single games against Georgia Tech and Louisiana - every thing else should be a automatic win.

We played without one of our best starting pitchers last week and our stud catcher. People forget, but we had a good FR pitcher last year who should be really good this year. We don't have lot of power but we're athletic and have deeper pitching than ever maybe. Need a couple FR to make an impact here and there, need Marron to find it, need better power numbers from our potential power hitters. Defense can be a little sketchy on the infield sometimes too. Can't play like we did vs Duke and win many games.
And Aspen was good last year. The new pitching coach made her a much better pitcher last year.

Don't be hatin' on Justin. He's as good as they come. We won our State Title in 2002 with him pitching. He also led the SEC with the lowest ERA his sophomore season.
