Advance tickets are available at the highschool

I just called Appomattox High School, and was informed that "no advance tickets are being sold". Tickets go on sale at Gate 4:45 Friday.

Sidebar: If this is true , this is a very bad decision by Appomattox. Tickets should be sold in advance to prevent long line at gate come Friday. No offense to the school, but their stadium isn't designed to handle large crowds. I will not discuss parking.

I haven't heard about pre-games sales and I work in the school system.

I think Appo has pretty decent parking. If the big lot at the front of the school is used there is a fair amount of parking. I've been to places that are much worse I know.

Schedule wise Appo has played some bigger, tougher schools so far. They lost to a good Heritage team who is doing well in the Seminole and beat Rustburg. Now Rustburg record wise is not that great but they play in the Seminole district which is very tough. (Heritage, Jefferson Forest, EC Glass, Brookville, Amherst, and a few others)

Bottom line is this game could go either way and if mistakes are made could get ugly for wither team. I will say Gretna is the favorite in my opinion. They are returning a talent squad and have lots of speed. Appomattox is still growing and this team, while still dangerous, will be much better down the road.

I agree BoBob. Gretna does have a lot of speed but I am sure Appomattox isn't exactly empty in that category. Just not the level of what they were blessed with in the past. As for Gretna schedule, you play who you can schedule. A few years back I think they played Heritage and Brookville when those schools were really good and Gretna seemed to be really down. Maybe there was a push to drop them, I dont know.

OK. I think I have gotten the skinny on the HR CANNING from some Gretna sources. It seems that HR's videoing was to say the least sometimes lacking as in missing entire plays or not in focus because of cell phone use while plays were going on. As they have always said, every coin has two sides. The girl in question is indeed his girlfriend I was told but had no interest in doing it. She was available and when asked agreed to do it and has continued to do it so she must be competent.

HR I will be at the game around 5:30 I'll be glad to get tickets for you. I've gotten tickets in advance many times, may have just been for playoffs. You can text me at 434 661 7295 if interested in tickets.

Tell me about it. We were forced into playing Fork Union last year since Nelson dropped out and Amherst said they wouldn't put on on again.
Well the FU game bit us in the butt this year in "No Game" and it cost us home field advantage last year for the payoffs (although going to Big Stone gap was an adventure and it was nice to beat them in that atmosphere).

Schools that desire to make a playoff run, should take more thought into scheduling. Now granted, when a school drops, as NC did, sometimes you have to take what you can get. Gretna dropped Brookville and Heritage to pick up easier opponents. I could see dropping Heritage, but not Brookville in a way. Playing up means more power points I think. Plus when you play Brookville, they bring a lot of fans, thus good gate and concessions. Also playing strong teams prepares you for playoffs. When you play a weak 2A school, you gain nothing but a glorified scrimmage, in which stats count.

OK, sounds good. I haven't decided what my arrival time will be yet, but I hope to be early to get good parking spot, so I can get out quickly.

Aaaauuuugggghhhhh! Don't give out phone numbers on here. There's a couple of jerks on these boards that like to annoy people with unwanted and sometimes threatening text messages.

Safe to say, Appomattox has more speed than anyone Gretna has played. Other than Radford, Gretna has played no one.
ONE question? You talk about Gretna who has appomattox played other than heritage which i believe if my memory serves me right was a big loss.....

Heritage and Rustburg immediately come to mind. How many Seminole District schools has Gretna played ?
THEY GOT BEAT BY HERITAGE AND RUSTBURG IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN EITHER HAS A LOSING RECORG OR A 500 RECORD.NOT EXACTLY WHAT I CALL BEATING UP ON TOUGH TEAMS.MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER WATCHING A DIFFERENT SPORT LIKE SOCCER OR MAYBE EVEN CHECKERS.

Be nice now. Appo has only lost to heritage, and no it won't a huge margin, but only takes 1 point to lose. Support your team and support them in a way that makes them proud.

Heritage is 6-1 in the Seminole and we were winning at the half, Rustburg is 3-4 in the Seminole. Rustburg has lost to some very good Seminole teams.
Both those teams are what I would call higher level than your average Dogwood team.

I think this will be a fun matchup, I’m just interested to see how Gretna uses Hicks in passing game, Appomattox, as wonderful scheme wise as they are still has had to replace 2 D1 DB’s. If I was Gretna that is where I would use Hicks to give me an edge. For Gretna to be where they are right now I think a lot of hats off needs to be given to building this team from where it essentially was a JV team in 2016 playing varsity competion to where they are now

Evidently he still likes Gretna as every game i have attended he has been there watching

Good I am glad. The posts where the offense not doing something never shocked me, but talking about their schedule seemed off from the last time they were really good. I remember HR6 talking about others scheduling but not Gretna (could have had a really hard schedule)

That’s a good win for a really young team against what was suppose to be a gretna team that was thinking big things just don’t think there are at that point yet , appos defence was great tonight , several big stops , appos young QB showed that he is very young and has to develop some touch when passing but there line and running game is what’s caring them for now .

I thought both teams would have scored more points. Gretna blew too many scoring opportunities in first half. I think they got in red zone 3 or 4 times and got no points. Once they had first and goal from 6 and didn't score.
The gurus were correct about Raiders passing game.

blocked punt, blocked field goal and fumble took away and chance gretna had of winning this game. Not sure ,don't think the raiders completed a single pass tonight

If you ask me gretna did not blow there chances in the red zone , they plan and simple got stuffed every time so the young raider defense showed up big tonight
Not giving excuses however it was pretty easy to see Gretna's QB was playing on 1 leg with a bum ankle. If I'm the coach from gretna i sit him next week with the playoffs coming up

Ukrazy you are exactly right appos passing game is almost nonexistent at this point , QB being 14 has got a lot of growing to do but he will be something as he grows into the position, the ones he did throw they dropped , but they plan and simple just know how to win and understand what they have to work with !
