Okay, so exactly 'why' is it so damn easy to win it in basketball?
Nobody else is spending any $$ on basketball? Auburn didn't just build a new arena? We pay twice as much for a coach? MSU is a basketball Mecca? Mississippi is such a 'hotbed' of basketball? MSU is 'entitled' to the best in the SEC even though our budget is the absolute, bar none,last.
Look at our attendance ... it sux and is next to last in the SEC even when you compare % of capacity. Besides the Tad Pad, the Hump is the 'dump' of the SEC.
So, we have a coach with the third best winning % in the SEC and have the least amount of $$ and fan support. Yet, we can do better? Yea, right

We playin a divisionthat cant develop talent.

We play in a division that has a lot of local raw talent, which has historically left early for a pay day of some sort.
We play in a division with schools that are undisciplined.
We play in a division that has 1 school which really seems tosupport their program in terms of attendance...Arkansas.
None of that applies to the West for football.

If life beats you down and you want to give up, whether in something important or just in athletics, feel free. But don't act like that's asign of wisdom.
It's fine to temper your expectations, but the fact that MSU has a smaller budget is not a reason to give up ontrying to be competitive.If you just sit around and hope that one day, Mississippi will put out enough talent that MSU will by default have a good season, yes, you'll get to have good seasons every few decades. But if you want something better, which is what I'm pretty sure most of the younger (and hopefully older) MSU fans want, you do actually have to have leadership that is proactive about trying to be competitive.
We're in a situation where we have a coach that has some limitations and fields teams that usually underperform relative to their talent level, but taking into account all aspects of managing a program, is better than average. Either we are unable or he is unwilling to hire an assistant that can hide some of his weaknesses. The question is, do we want to stick withhim, knowing that until somebodyin the West hits on a coaching hire, he can consistently be competitive in a ****** division but also knowing that even when he gets a wave of talent, it will not likely lead to anything beyond a tourney appearance?Potentially correct answers include:

...why do we have to wait half a year for the team to come together every year? Just once, I'd like to see us play well early in the season. This tells me that Stans isn't doing something right during the preseason practices and the offseason conditioning programs.
I'm also sick of taking losses to sisters of the poor every year. We end up with 19, 20 wins and everyone talks about how the NCAA screws us with seeding or not picking us altogether, but we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

because arguing with people who know they are right is pointless; however, I would like to point out a few things youaparently thought my post said, which it did not:
* Life has not beat me down, and I certainly don't think getting beat down is a sign of wisdom, which is why I indicated that not all older people learn from their experience and should be listened to.
* I never said anything about giving up on being competitive. If we are not competitive for a period of time the coach needs to go. MSU basketball has been as competitive over the last 15 years as anytime in its history. That gives the coach a lot of rope in my opinion.
* This argument has been rehashed way too many times on this site, but I consider Stans a nice recruiter, but this massive amount of talent some say we have underachieved with has amounted to about 1 real year in the NBA in ten seasons. That is simply nota massive amount of talent to say someone underachieved. If anything, he has overacheived.
That said, this is a disappointing season and, in my opinion, a dissapointing group of players in terms of character and leadership. They are being outplayed andouthustled and that is resulting in teams outrebounding us and shooting %'s against us that are unheard of in the Stans era. We have completely lost the tough, hardnosedreputation we used to have. I don't think this team has much chance of having even a decent season. If that were to be the case again next year, then we have a major problem (and we may). Until then, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt he has earned.

of Stansbury... but his teams are ALWAYS prepared to break a zone defense in November. Always. And don't you ever forget it. We talk about it during our swimming parties.

Like was stated earlier, the term THUG is not a black or white issue unless you are looking for something that is not there. Considering that you are amember of a fanbaseteam that waves Confederate flags and chants TSWRA, I can see why you would automatically assume that race played a part in the above statement. How did you become a fan of a School that has these "traditions"? I am sure that you hate the chanting of TSWRA, waving Confederate flags and visiting with the Klan on campusbefore heading to the big game, but how did you become a fan of such a backwards *** university to begin with? The Ole Miss Rebels??? I am sure that you are VERY sensitive to all racial issues, give me a break. Go back to the Nafoom site, I hear that they are discussing some great recipes over there today.
I think its too early in the year to give up on the team. The talent is here, its up to Stans to make it happen, if we don't make the tourney and run to the sweet 16 I will be off the train.
