Are we better than 2007?

I think absolutely yes. At this point in 2007, nobody thought we could make the CWS (we later did). Today, I'd say we all think we have a great shot at it.

Our pitching is a lot better and a mile deep. Defense is really good. Our hitting isn't hot, but its been good enough.

I feel great about going up against any team in the nation with him on the mound.

Our hitting isn't as good but with the pitching we have, it has been good enough the second half of the season. Plus, this team scraps! The last time a Polk team did that was back around the time of Pete Young.

Powers, Easley, Rea, Moreland, and Turner is as good a 5 as you can get.

Sneed was raw but we saw what he could do.

But that starting pitching...wow. you should never make it to Omaha with taht starting pitching and the play we got at SS.

Its pretty close.

But the overall talent is similar. Neither team was world-beaters. Neither is "expected" to get there. We'll still have to fight for every win but instead of 8-6 games we have 4-3 games. Better pitching, worse hitting, similar overall talent.

Except for there was no equivalent to Stratton. No pitcher was close and one hitter can't impact a game the way he can.

This team is 100x the team the 07 team was talentwise. We were just lucky to be blessed with a team full of upper-classmen in 07. And we still backed into a cws with lightning in a bottle. As soon as we arrived, it became apparent that we did not belong. With this team, we almost expect to make a run. In 07 no one expected anything.

When the dust clears, this team will put far more players high in the draft and in the Show, they are just mostly still young and inexperienced...

esp. in the regional. Clutch hitting won the Super. Then when we got to Omaha, we couldn't hit enough to win. If I recall, we were up 4-0 over UNC and blew it, then got devastated by Louisville. <div>
</div><div>So, the old saying about pitching and defense rings true again.</div>

You can't deny the talent on the '07 team, especially the lineup. Even Sneed and Butler were pretty talented. The hitters Polk left Cohen were not bad at all. He just left ZERO pitching, and we've found out since which one is more important.

This teams pitching/defense>>>2007 team's hitting/offense. I cannot believe we won with that 07 staff.

We don't have any Mitch Moreland's or Ed Easley's to send to the plate this year like we did in 2007.

and trying to prove how ****** our hitting is.<div>
</div><div>But I think it's pretty obvious the 2007 team had better hitters (at that point of their careers). Norris, Henderson, Renfroe, Frazier.....those guys have a chance to end up better than the 2007 bunch.</div>

But Moreland is in the majors and Easley was a 1st round draft pick. New bats, old bats, experience, inexperience, I'll be shocked if this team produces 2 prospects like those two.

Altogether?

We've got a HANDFUL of pitchers on this team with major league stuff... The majority of them are just freshmen...

Several have the potential to make the majors and/or be high draft picks.</p>
