....there's nowhere to hang them on the east side, and the only place to hang them on the west side is right over the part where it spells out "MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY" in big letters.

I don't like ribbon boards much either. However, the one thing I liked about ours after they were installed last year is that they were able to display things like game stats throughout the game and also give score updates.

It was almost like having a ticker in the stadium, and I liked that. You didn't have to wait until timeouts to hear score updates. We usually only get one, maybe 2 score updates a game from the press box. The ribbon boards would basically shuffle Top 25/SEC scores, and we were able to see the main stats of the game for a lot of the game.

Actually, what I hate is the over-use of the ticker. If they used it only occasionally like maybe once every 5-10 minutes, it'd be fine. But having scrolling type constantly rolling by during game action is annoying as hell.

That is precisely how Auburn uses them. They are more informative than the jumbo in my opinion. The jumbo has become so commercialized that it rarely shows anything useful. One replay of each play (sponsored of course). Lists of donors once a quarter. Commercials that are pricey but do get you 87,000+ exposures. The ribbon boards have ads too, but it seems like there are running stats and scores most of the time.

Is there really even a need for a huge ribbon giving score updates when you can get them just as easily on your cell phone?
