They were after Jackson Taylor who is a 4* out of Los Angeles, more upside than Thomalla.

At this point that should absolutely be the goal when targeting all of our players.
I get so tired of fans falling in love with some of these lower level local or program "connected " guys because of familiarity. Its past time for us to start acting like a big boy program. You wanna be in the playoff then start recruiting that way. Can THIS kid be the the type of player to lead us to the playoffs? THAT should be the question our coaches are asking when we are putting these offers out. You have to be shooting for the stars. Of course we won't get em all but you gotta try.
Our fans always cry about us not offering some local kid who may or may not be that type of athlete. Then when he hits the field and proves to not be THAT type of kid we are critical of him . He is who he was. It's not his fault he just isn't that guy.
If I'm being honest it's why I have had a problem with our DBs. I love those guys like Giff and Singelton, Buford, and Hartzog. Problem is they are NOT guys we are making the playoffs with. We should be targeting and landing better talent if we TRULY wanna talk about playoffs. The fact that we haven't recruited guys who can beat them out truly scares me. These guys for the most part are just OK.
You don't make playoffs with just OK guys.

According to the article linked below, there is talk of Trae Taylor reclassifying from 2027 to 2026. Taylor is one of the top HS quarterbacks in the country, and he has Nebraska in his top 5.

ABSOLUTELY I think they can. If not then we probably shouldn't be excited about the direction of the program. If we wanna play in the playoffs you better hope it gets better.

We need to carry 5 QBs I believe. IF we carry 5 there sure as hell is room for that 5th guy to be a local kid who might be more likely to stick around and be able to come in and run the whole offense while the new transfers are floundering trying to learn it. Portal portal portal. There is no way in hell we’re going to ever have 4 QBs on the roster capable of winning the NC. You have to have enough QBs to run practices, to run scout team, and to manage a game if the worst case scenario happens with injuries.
Matt Turman didn’t play a whole game for us because he was the most talented healthy QB left on the roster. He played because he could run the offense without costing us the game by turning the ball over.
If you are referring to the KState game he didn’t play the whole game. TO eventually had to put Brooke into the game.
Didn’t recall Berringer coming in. The point is still valid though. Tom had other QBs on the roster more talented than Turman but instead he chose to travel him and play him versus a younger guy who couldn’t reliably run the offense.
He did not the other 2 QBs on the roster besides Tommie. Brooke and Matt were Monte Christo and Jay strahle( whoever that was) Matt was 3 on the deplth chart and Brooke finished the game.
The landscape has changed since Matt Turman was roaming the streets of Lincoln. Look at Kaelin, he saw the writing on the wall after 1 year and transferred. You can get players like Granstad (SIC) that will come here with the hopes of getting a shot, in case of emergency. But the days of a local 4 star QB coming to Nebraska to be the emergency QB, just because the player grew up in Nebraska are long gone.

Look at Ohio St, as an example, they have a revolving door, in and out, of 4 and 5 star QBs. They aren't able to keep 4 and 5 stars on their roster either. Their starting QB is going to be a transfer from Alabama, the other 2 QBs are a third year player in Kienholz, and a true freshman 5 star in Tavien St. Clair. They needed to go to the transfer portal for a QB last year as well. They had 3 or 4 QBs leave over the last couple of years.

It’s not just a matter of keeping them for us. We’re not OSU. We’re not going to be able to recruit more than 3 to our roster at any one time.
Thomalla's dad has told me they have stayed away from Nebraska because all signs point to Riola's brother coming to Nebraska to take over the QB crown.
TreaTaylor may reclassify to 26 . I watched Jett in the state championship game. He just throws the ball up and lets his receivers who are dominant ( at the HS level) make plays. He won’t have that luxury in college. I look at his offer sheet: it doesn’t match a the top flight QB he is supposed to be .we’ll see how he shakes out .
This. Watched South play North, South WR and TE just ran past North’s DB’s and they just ran under ball. Not sure what the QB’s skill set throwing into tight windows is, but he’s probably not being asked to that much. Has he been competing in any of those Elite camps?
I must not be making my point clearly. If Ohio St is not keeping 4 and 5 star QBs on their bench, then no one is. The buckeyes have 3 recruited QBs on their roster right now. One is a guy that has played in a total of 3 games in 2+seasons and didn’t garner enough interest to even transfer. One is a true freshman and the other a RS freshman transfer from Alabama and their likely starter. Unless Sayin is injured this fall, I would expect St. Claire to transfer after redshirting this fall and Ohio St will be looking for another transfer QB after the season.
My point remains, if Nebraska is going to compete nationally, they are either going to have to start young QBs, like they did with Dylan Raiola, or get into the transfer portal for the annual, one year missionary QB. If I had to bet a sum of money that mattered to me, I would bet either or both Lateef or younger Raiola won’t make it here 2 years before transferring and that neither will start a game that isn’t due to injury. The starting QB, after Dylan Raiola, who wins the job on merit not injury, will either be a freshman or a transfer.
So he is afraid to compete. At least Kaelin came in and tried to win the job before transferring.
Unless there's a 3rd Raiola brother NU is worried about getting, they don't have to do any more package deals. If younger Raiola gets beat out, who cares about keeping the family happy at that point
I understand your point and don’t disagree with that. The difference is that OSU can and will get multiple 4 and 5 star top QBs every year if they want. I don’t believe we can do that. Maybe you get. 4 star kid if he’s looking at competing with one other 4 star kid for the backup role initially but I doubt we’re going to have 4-5 of those kind of guys on our QB depth chart. So IF we want to keep 5 QBs at least one of those guys is probably going to have to be a developmental or game manager QB. Those kind of guys might as well be an area kid willing to run scout team for a couple of years for a shot at playing as a junior or senior. Maybe Dana changes the attractiveness of being the #4 QB on our roster but I doubt it will be enough land the kind of talent depth that rotates through OSU.
Flores was a better high school QB than Thomalla. He is battling for the starting job at Oklahoma St.
I would agree I just wasn’t overly impressed when I saw him play in person at the the State Championship.and besides a couple of regional good offers ( ISUand Mizzou) his offer sheet backs my opinion.
