Are we really going to lose a player in the 40th round?

I wouldn't get that at all. He would get almost no signing bonus. Hopefully he's not getting any bad advice...
So realistically, what are we gonna look like next season?
I know our pitching will take a pretty big hit losing Lingo and Holder.
But will we improve at all offensively?
Does anyone think we'll sniff 40 regular season wins? Or even a regional?

I actually think our hitting will be better next year. We should have more power in the lineup with Swinarski and Humphreys playing a lot and then Garner and Rooker as DH options.
The bullpen is a concern for the first time in a long time. Starting pitching should be as good or better with everyone coming back. Hudson may be the X factor in how good we are next year.

Should we consider fitts stepping into holder's role? Fitts is very good 1 time thru lineup
LOL, getting an early start for 2015, which I'm certain will be the 5th consecutive year of "We won't make the NCAA Tournament at all!!!!!111" meltdowns.
Lulzzz dude, it was just a question. No meltdown. I mean clearly if we don't improve offensively and take even a small step back pitching-wise, the 40 win mark will be somewhat of a pipedream.
I just don't keep up with our baseball recruiting religiously like some do. Just curious as to what our incoming class will be able to contribute.
What do ya'll think Paul Young, Will Cox, Jon Marc Shelly will be able to do for us, if anything , coming off their injuries?

My hope is that we can get Hudson into the starting rotation, and move Mitchell back to the pen. Young may be ready by opening game, but Cox will probably not be 100% until later in the year? Shelly should be ready fairly early as well.
Laster is going to the cape, so I expect him to be pretty solid next year, and to lock up a rotation spot. We pretty much know that Fitts is going to start, and he will be a 4-5 inning guy. And Hudson is likely going to be our 3rd weekend starter unless he can't get it done, then Ross probably winds up back in the rotation. If we can have a pen consisting of Ross, Tatum, Gentry, Sexton, Young, Cox, and Shelly...we should be solid, but fairly inexperienced outside of Ross and Gentry.
offensively, I look for us to be Much better next season. Obviously, a lot can change, but my early prediction for a starting lineup for opening day is....

Collins C
Rea 1B
Garner DH
Holland SS
Brown CF
Britton 3B

Fitts
Laster
Hudson
Some form of that order, although it is RH dominant and Cohen might freak out over that and DH Robson or somebody vs a RHP....but to me that lineup has a ton of power and extra base hits in it. We'll see, just guessing
I don't think he has the velocity to close out games. People on here complained about Holder not having a great fastball but he clocked 94 pretty often.

If we lose a 40th round guy, that is a major fail by the coaching staff. With only a limited amount of scholarship money available, they have to know what these kids' plans are within reason. I doubt they would invest too much effort into a guy that would bail if they got drafted at all.
Plus, to be a consistent, elite team, there is a certain threshold where you don't worry about HS recruits signing. That should definitely be outside of the 10th round for us and then get a few inside of that here and there. That said, I can't recall anyone lately who was outside of the 10th and signed. Corey Dickerson maybe?
To be fair, we snagged a 5th rounder and he never lived up to the hype. An undrafted utility player became the most productive pitcher in school history.

Dickerson was 7th round, and he is currently tearing it up for the Rockies. Alexander went fairly late if I recall and he went pro.
Ha are you serious? Some of these kids have no idea what they are doing until they are drafted and the amount of money that they are offered. And a lot of times these projections are way off. No way for Cohen and our staff to be psychics. I know Cohen has a PowerPoint that he shows draft risks with the pros and cons of college vs. minor league ball.
