Here's the million dollar question. All fans of other schools not in the SEC say they would never root for a rival to win a NC and there's a growing number in our fanbase and other SEC fanbases that are starting to follow that same outlook. I'm not though.

As much as I hate Auburn the SEC brand is more important to me. I believe MSU has benefited exponentially from the SEC winning 7 in a row. The athletic revenue is getting close to TRIPILING since 2006 after the new SECNetwork kicks in.

I believe having our peers playing at the highest level has forced MSU to keep up thus widening the margin from MSU to all non-SEC schools outside the Big 5 by miles and miles. I also believe that the SEC's dominance in football has had a rippling effect on all other sports at MSU (except MBB) and helped increase enrollment. Those are some of the reasons I will be rooting for 8 in a row. We want the trophy to stay in the SEC. Now blast away.

I don't really want Auburn to win, but understand the benefits if they do! So I remain ambivalent.

Nah. 17 Auburn. I could pull for just about anybody else (except our neighbors to the north). Nothing against the school in general. Just don't like their fans & don't like any coach they've had in my lifetime.

I typed a long post explaining why the answer should be no, but my phone ate it, so here's the jist of it.

The SEC can't get anymore prestigious. 8 straight nattys doesn't convince anyone that the SEC is the best conference who wasn't convinced at 7. If FSU wins, ESPN isn't gonna terminate our tv deal in favor of the ACC. We don't need a fifth straight natty coming from a neighboring state, but the most important reason why we shouldn't root for auburn, 17 auburn! 17 those lucky *** cheating mother 17ers.

I hope they lose by 60. I'm sick of having to compete on the field and in recruiting against the national champion every year. I'd trade all 7 (possibly 8) SEC national championships if we could have won just one SEC championship over that same time.

I told a UM friend the other day --- between MSU and UM we've had 30 chances to play in the SEC championship game since 98. 0 for 30 between the two schools. And as long as Bama, LSU, and Auburn keep winning national championships that's not going to change.

Well 17 no. I don't give a **** if they're sec or not, they're still our rival. You know who else I wouldn't pull for? Anyone in the west not named Mississippi State. Or USM.

I've always liked Florida State, and used to like 'Burn until scam. Will not be rooting for em, but will not be upset if they keep the SEC on top.

17 auburn and Shug Jordan. It would suit me if they never won another game, no, never scored another point.

17'em now and forever.

Absolutely not. Excluding Ole Miss, Auburn has done more to hurt Mississippi State than any other school. They're without a doubt the dirtiest program in the nation, have had way more NCAA violations than any other school. They sold their soul to compete with Alabama and are the stereotypical little brother team that will break any rule to one up them.

Yes! How in the hell can you root for Winston and the ACC. We may hate the tigers, but we were within 10 seconds of beating those guys... We will recruit who we recruit! Auburn has already put their stake in the ground win or lose.....

Let's play pretend! You are a recruit that wants to play in the SEC. Are you going to go to one that is mediocre or one that wins national championships? I'll hang up and listen.

I get that it doesn't help in recruiting if it's just between MSU and Auburn for a recruit but it does when it's MSU vs any other school not in the SEC. MSU was 10 seconds from beating Auburn this year. We are close and it's because the SEC has brought us. Look at our program in 2006 and compare it to the state it's at today. All the facility upgrades etc. What about the new best ballpark we are supposedly building for baseball? Is that possible without some overspill from football money? Doubtful.

The better the SEC does the better we all do. Root for the SEC because I can guarantee you every other conference is rooting for us to lose. I bet the ACC is cheering like a mother17er for their conference to win. Have we become so spoiled we can't see the benefits that being the top conference has brought MSU? All it takes is one loss in this NC game for doubt to creep in on which conference rules the roost. Root for the SEC not Auburn.

For the record, I am not picking Auburn to win. I'm picking FSU. Just saying that all you people who think FSU is going to blow them out are crazy. Auburn has 4 wins (and 1 loss) against top 25 teams (2 wins against top 10). FSU has 1 win, none against the top 10.

I think the sec dominance not only helps financially but also made us pick up our game so we wouldn't get left behind. Brings on more competition which makes us all better. I know kang helped to get it started but we still needed to get more involved and not be afraid to push our brand out there and be proud of it. I don't get what some of these folks get at talking about hoping they lose so we won't have to compete in recruiting. Hate to tell ya but we are gonna have to compete either way. You think auburn or Alabama is not gonna go all out to get the recruits? What this has done is make us go all out also. And I can honestly sit here and say I could see us having a magical season just like auburn. Just gotta have a little luck on our side one year and it can be done. We have the players, I think we have the coaches, need to some things corrected but over all I think we are there and we didn't get blown out by anyone. And after seeing what bowling green did it makes me feel a little better about that win. I see no reason we can't make that kind of run next year if no major injuries and a little luck.

If anyone starts doubting that the SEC is the top conference because auburn loses the title game, they are an idiot. The money isn't going to stop coming in if they lose. The tv coverage isn't going to end. Nothing is going to change. We will still be in the best conference in America and we will still be one of the stepchildren of the SEC. I don't get my Jollies riding the coat tails of LSU, Florida, Alabama, and certainly not Auburn.

Eventually the streak will end. And the SEC team that blows it will be mercilessly ridiculed for ruining the streak. Who better for that team to be than Auburn?

What good does revenue do if we still finish 5th in the west? Ultimately football is a zero sum game. Sure all teams can get better, but the average record is .500 and that isn't going anywhere. Does it matter if we have a nice slick stadium to watch our Dawgs scrape by to 6-6?

Many of the other schools root for the SEC because they've had their turn winning it all. We haven't so 17 all the other schools. I didn't pull for Bama the last two years either.

I hope FSU wins by a thousand

I actually think they should win. They're SEC quality big fast and strong. Not ohio state style.

the SEC thing is not enough to make me pull for that damn auburn team that escaped five games they shouldn't have. 17 Auburn.

Since there is a connection to my hometown being Malzahn's first coaching job and my old HS coach I will have to pull for him. Don't really care for auburn but I like Gus.

no doubt auburn has played better competition, including teams with big defensive lines and fast linebackers. Has fsu even been tested? Pruitt, the defensive coord is a defensive backfield guy, and fsu will try to force auburn to make some passing plays. Their last plays against us and georgia proves they can make a passing play when they need to. So, I think Auburn will be one-dimensional, which is exactly what they want. They're going to let fsu put them exactly where they want to be -- run, run, run.

I'm fairly neutral with a slight lean to AU just because they are SEC. But if they lose, I won't lose any sleep over it.

Some of you people are pathetic.

You're like the mayor and his son in red Dawn (the original). Just bend over and take it from the big boys year-in and year-out with a smile on your face because it's best for the town we all live in. I'd rather go out like Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen. 17 Auburn and the rest of the west!

A lot of people dont realize that the sec would receive the same amount of money from the bcs even if we didnt have a team in the national championship. Mississippi state and ole miss get the same amount of money either way. It has helped us out as far as stadium expansion and recruiting and level of play because we can say that we are in the sec. But when the other sec teams are just getting that much better than us then does it really benefit us? So im rooting for fsu because another sec win doesnt get us any closer to atlanta.

That's very close to right. I will add that while we do get money from all the bowls, the schools that go to BETTER bowls get more money. Which means more money for facilities, etc.
