until the police in Jackson have their *** handed to them and clean up their act, nothing in Jackson will change. I personally have dealt with the Jackson Police Department and one of the suburb police departments. It was the exact same crime and the difference in response was amazing. Jackson should be ashamed of what they have allowed the police force to dissolve into and until they fix it, they will not have any type of turnaround.
Well here is the root of the problem
Jackson Police Department:
Salary
<span style="text-decoration:underline">Police Recruit</span> - $23,750.00 (Annually), after successful completion of a 14-week training program.
$28,887.00 (annually), after <span style="text-decoration:underline">one year</span> of employment.
Memphis Police Department:
<span style="text-decoration:underline">Police Recruit</span>
Hourly Monthly Annually
Training $17.72 $3,072.09 $36,866.18
<span style="text-decoration:underline">Police Officer</span>
Hourly Monthly Annually
Probationary $18.96 $3,286.39 $39,436.80
1-2 Years $21.08 $3,654.45 $43,854.72
2-3 Years $22.67 $3,930.17 $47,163.48
3 Years + $24.78 $4,294.63 $51,537.20
A police officer in training makes $8k a year more than a 1 year veteran in Jackson metro. After 1 year of service, the pay differential is almost $15k a year. I can promise you with stellar salary for JPD, the best and brightest are heading elsewhere. If Jackson wants to get serious about crime, they will find a way to get serious about paying police officers.
