That's what I'd like to see happen. Ten is more realistic.

You people who are suddenly revisionists about John Calipari as a way of attacking Pope are delusional and pathetic.

Calipari flat out quit on Kentucky, once he got his lifetime contract, and wanted to blame the fan base -- all of us -- for the fact that he went 9-16, then lost to St. Peter's with NBA-caliber talent, then couldn't beat Jerome Tang with the National Player of the Year and an NBA guard, then decided NOT TO START two NBA lottery picks, and lost to a Horizon League team despite having about six guys drafted in the NBA and still playing there.

He screwed up Reed Sheppard's head to the point that a guy now averaging 14 ppg in the NBA looked worse than Jon Hood against some guy for Oakland who is probably a DoorDash driver today.

Calipari quit on Kentucky, and now that he wrecked our program he's putting in the effort again -- just to stick it to us and salve his own ego. That makes him a loser and a turd.

I'm not totally sold on Pope. One more year, and we'll know whether he needs to go. For that year, I might as well back him and wish him well, by way of being a faithful Kentucky fan.
But the Calipari nostalgia on this board is purely for masochists and wimps of the type who'd let someone cheat on them, steal their money, and then wish them well with a new guy.

Spoiled fan base. Hell I would have quit on you to.
If you keep it up, Pope is going to quit on you then who you're going to get? Travis Ford?
Imagine this years team losing in the first round and a similar team doing the same thing next year and last years team not turning things around and finishing toward the bottom of the SEC. You think you and other hog fans would be happy? Hell no you wouldn’t nor should you be. That’s not spoiled, rather expecting better than what you were served. That was out last 5 years with Cal so shove your spoiled BS up your hog ***.

Horse hockey. It's largely because of this "spoiled fan base" that demands a certain level of performance and excellence that has produced the greatness that is UK basketball. The issue is Pope should have never been hired. Some may say, well no one wanted it. That is simply not true. Pearl would have taken it and killed it here. I am convinced of that.

It's simply confirmation bias to claim those things about Cal. He never quit on UK. He's the same coach now as he's ever been. Probably better because of experience? Like Pitino is a better now than he ever was.

As for Sheppard, Cal took him from a for sure 2-3 year guy to the number 3 pick. Sheppard himself says Cal is the best coach in college basketball.

Cal loved being at UK. Cal loved the UK fans. He never talked down to fans. Just because matt jones says it doesn't make it true. Cal never burned any bridges with boosters. Most of those sol called burned boosters still visit him in Arkansas and welcome him into their homes when he's in Ky.

Cal wore out his welcome here with the players first thing. But it was something he never shied from. He said it day one and he never wavered from it.

None of that has anything to do with Pope. Barney made a panic hire once his chosen man backed out. I thought it was going to turn out to be a stroke of genius. But it's not. The problem now is Barney refusing to correct his mistake.

In 10 years Cal will be looked at fondly like Pitino is now, but the reality is as it was time to go for everyone. Arkansas fans are over the moon with back to back sweet sixteens and no real realistic chance at a championship, and that simply wouldn’t be cutting it here. We don’t even hang banners for elite eights. It’s as simple as that.

We just have higher standards and more tradition than you. We don’t celebrate sweet sixteens, whether right or wrong. I personally wouldn’t come on to an Alabama board and call them spoiled if we hired their former football coach and we finished the season in the top 16 but they fired him because he only won one football playoff game in 5 years. I would just understand they have higher standards, and are possibly just better human beings with a life that don’t care about my terrible program.

The posters pining for Cal are embarrassing. It’s like the ex husband/wife who is obsessed with their ex’s new relationship while they sit at home and cry all night thinking of old times. It’s such a bad look.

I am also seeing a few names who screamed for Cal to go now want him back because his team is still playing and ours isn’t. The envy is also embarrassing.

Cal left on his own and a lot of us were happy when he did. Many of us knew Cal would be motivated to spite us when he left and would probably have a couple good years at first at Arkansas. We didn’t count on replacing Cal with someone worse, but that’s the risk we took knowing Mitch was our AD.

So, I don’t give a damn what Cal does. He coaches Arkansas now. You won’t catch me pining for him any time soon.

I hope Arizona beats the Hogs, but it would not shock me in the slightest if the Hogs won. Underdog Cal is the best Cal. Favorite Cal sucks royally.

I can never get a handle on how good AZ is in years where they are up. They may be contenders to win it all or totally overhyped again. I could see Arky throwing some athleticism at them that they aren't used to dealing with. But I can also see Cal trying to sit on a lead and losing.

Askew, Wheeler, Wheeler in 3 consecutive years is kinda phoning it in. That set the stage for the last year's disappointment.

You’re going to have Stan Heath and John Pelphrey level coaching and relevance once again when Cal leaves, so enjoy it while it lasts.
Gonna be a while before Cal retires, he has Tyson, Walmart, and J B Hunt money to work with, and you guys already have Pelphrey and Heath level coaching in place. Enjoy another year of being very mediocre.

said earlier this season he wasn’t going to do this forever and wanted to help 25 or 30 more families. When you consider his roster turnover, he’s talking about 4 or 5 more seasons. We may be saying the same thing, but it’s not like he’s going to be there a decade.

Wow. It sounds like you need to take a deep breath and a step back from basketball. I have been a Kentucky fan for a long time. I appreciate what Cal did for this program and the state of Kentucky. He might lose tonight, but I will be watching and rooting for him to make it to Elite Eight. I just hope you are able to handle it if he wins.

Cal found a stud in Acuff. He has changed everything for Cal at Arky.

With that said, the last time Cal played team with Arizona talent.. it was Florida.

Hogs lost by 34.

Arkansas beat OU, Ole Miss, Vandy, Hawaii and High Point and all the sudden Cal is primed to cut nets in Fayetteville according to some. Some people are prisoner of the moment too often. Arkansas is good with an elite player. Cal is still a HOF coach and will be ready tonight, but Arizona is a cut above and should win going away.

we had one last year and are miserable. Like being a super attractive and rich man it’s hard to be happy with an ugly wife. In a way I’m jealous you’re so happy with such mid results. Just like if in football we were consistently in the top 25 I’d be pumped

What’s funny to me is, people thought he came to Arkansas to kick the can down the road. We wouldn’t hire a coach in that fashion. We get 0 respect from the outside. We are a proud bball fan base. Cal is the 3rd hall of fame coach that’s coached here and people talk about Arkansas like we’re irrelevant.

For example I hear constantly how Arizona is a “blue blood”. How exactly ? Arkansas has a better tournament history than they do, we are 6-2 all time against them. I know what Arkansas is and isn’t, but it isn’t a program that is fine with taking the back seat. We actually have a little pride. We have the most tournament wins right now of any SEC team since 2015. Is that satisfying? Sure, but we also have higher expectations than just tournament wins. We want to get to our 7th final 4. We’d like to make the title game again. We almost went back to back in 93-95.

You just won the SEC tournament for the first time since like 1994 😂
