Same but after the dust settles I think most will get on board with him. I can’t hold a grudge for his failure as a HC. He wasn’t ready. Keenum is responsible for that disaster.
Agree. If we can manage to set aside the HC year, thought he was generally considered to be a pretty good DC. I certainly thought so. I give him most of the credit for winning our last EB when I thought we'd get run out of VHS.

Arnett's defenses ranked in the Top 5 of the SEC while he was DC from 20-22.. Hutzler's defenses ranked 16th and 15th (thanks Arkansas) in his two years, including the 3rd worst in P4 in 2024 with an overall ranking of 126 out of 134 teams, and in 2025 the 11th worst in P4 and 104 out of 136 teams. Historically the worst defenses in MSU history.

Arnett was 52nd in 2020, 29th in 2021, and 35th in 2022. Give us that type of production this year, and we are 9-3 going to a Florida bowl.

That or they see him as lame duck. Arnetts family loved Starkville so I guess maybe he made a push to get the job. I’m not sure if they ever actually left here.

It helps when your air raid attack is the equivalent to the wishbone and you win TOP every game

Arnett’s defenses were good. I don’t hold anything against him regarding HC. Thrown into a tough spot. IMO, his misstep was trying to completely change the offensive style in one off season.

Hell, he may have still be our HC if he takes a more calculated approach to changing the offensive scheme.

When running it back goes wrong.

This feels like the equivalent of crop dusting. Selmon and Lebby just sauntered thru the room laying down silent but deadly farts to gauge reaction. Now, when they drop a turd of the real DC hire, that underwhelming announcement will smell like a bouquet of roses by comparison.

It's not like this hasn't been done before. How many times did Manny come back.

Yes, I know. Totally different situation.

That is the absolute last name I expected to see for the DC search. Other DCs know Lebby is a lame duck coach just waiting to be fired in a year
I think Arnett is looking for any opportunity to get back into coaching and we will probably get his best coaching ever.

Certainly seems like this means we whiffed on several candidates, but didn’t Mullen hire ZA at UNLV before the Wendy’s incident?

Lebby’s extreme tempo on offense + his inability to sustain drives (most three-and-outs in SEC) turns off turns off ambitious coordinators chasing the resume building ranks. Lebby’s side of the ball causes quick turnarounds for the D + lack of quality depth = amplifying fatigue and mistakes, which makes the D look worse. So because of this Lebby’s DC position is hard to fill

Lebby once again makes a poor DC hire. Why bring this guy back? It's comical. I mean you just cannot make this stuff up. Why can't MSU get out of its own way? It's a legitimate question.

I liked Arnept but this is underwhelming and hopefully every poster here realizes that we cannot attract quality coaches. That said bring on the blitzing. Eta now I want see Pernell as DL coach

I’m not completely surprised by some of the reactions (this is terrible, sign of the apocalypse, chicken little sky is falling) to this possible scenario, but wasn’t Anett a pretty good DC for us (just a few seasons ago)? He knows the recruiting landscape. Understands the hurdles. Why would we get caught up in the in the perception versus the previous on field results??? I don’t blame him for the emergency promotion to HC (that timing was awful on multiple levels … all of which were almost completely out of our control).

I’d be ok with it if we bring Arnett back and he hires Pernell and a couple of the other former players that are moving up the coaching ranks.

Some of you guys seem to stay in your emotions. The vast majority of fans would say Arnett was one of our better DC in recent years. He got forced into a position that didn’t work out under unfortunate circumstances. And yes of course Lebby is on the hot seat and that impacts who we can hire .So all in all this might be the best hire possible under the circumstances.

Also, with all the complaints about every coach, AD, and President I would love to hear if some of you have liked any of the men that we have ever had in any of these positions.
