he said something to the effect that he WAS a fan of PSU when growing up, "kind of like a kid who grows up in Starkville and is a fan of Mississippi State". So it may not mean any more than that. It doesn't necessarily mean that he covets the HC job, but it doesn't mean that he doesn't either. His interest, if there is any, may be a bit tainted under the present scenario and I hope it is.
