As bad as Vandy is this year...it "appears" MSU is worse. And that is sad...really sad.
We gave up 3 runs in that inning yesterday...yes...because of 2 errors on one play. But what did our hitters do with the bat the previous 5 innings? 1 HIT!
You have to score at least 5 runs in college even if you have decent pitching. Errors will occur. Hit batsmen will occur. Walks will occur. But when those things are given up by our pitchers or fielders...the opponents hitters seem to make us pay by driving balls into the outfield. When we get those breaks, we dribble slow rollers to infielders who get the out at first or turn a DP even if they give up a run. Give me a catcher that can mash a ball 400 feet and hit .350 even if he has a few passed balls or throws one into center field. Give me a first baseman who runs a 6.0 40 yard dash as long as he only has to trot to 2nd on a double or around the bases after it leaves the yard. Give me a 3rd baseman that gives up bunt singles if he hits 15 HRs, drives in 50 runs and hits .360.
It is COLLEGE Baseball!!! Florida doesn't have 39 HRs already because their fences are 30 feet closer to home than ours. They go find those guys that play in big high school parks and still hit 18 HRs. Renfroe played on the equivalent of a softball field at Copiah and that is why he hit so many homeruns. Rea weighs over 280 lbs. and hits more "nubbers" than anyone on the team. I am sure his speed serves him well in those situations.**
