As it stands right now - Relf doesn't bring anything more to our running game...

I've wondered about that earlier in the season. It's harder for me to admit that he really doesn't need to be receiving significant snaps anymore because of what all he was able to do for us last season, but he's just going to hurt us more than help us now with things as the way they are. His strength is supposed to be his running ability, and if he can't do that as well as he had been, then he's sadly reverted to ahindrance.
I think Relf has hurt us this year. He has shown what appears to be bad decision making, but I think it's greed. I think he's wanted the ball and on several occasions kept it rather than handing off to Ballard or Perkins when they had the open lane. Not to mention other teams just stack the box against him knowingthat he going up the gut with the ball. At least Russell appears to keep teams somewhat honest and spread out over the field allowing a few plays to the outside when he runs.
Relf isn't breaking tackles. Last year he was running over people. This year he goes down at first contact. He's a liability in the passing game, so other than fond memories of obliterating UM the last two years he's not giving us anything Russell couldn't. In fact, I'd say Russell is faster.
and that's still what I think. For whatever reason, hurt or something else, Relf has quit running the ball like he did last year. It feels like wasted snaps when he's in there.
After watching Relf's first couple series, I said that while we only have about a 2% shot of beating Bama with Russell in the game, we had a 0% chance with Relf. Whether you blame him, our line, play calling, or whatever... Relf has been completely ineffective this year against a half decent defense.
I would not be entirely against Relf playing in a 1st and goal situation from inside the 5, but Russell should be getting all other snaps. He's our future so hand him the reigns.

Russell isn't the bruiser that Relf is nor does he look as comfortable running as Relf does, but this year he's been just as effective. Also, his decision making just seems to be much better than Relf's.....when Tyler keeps it, it's the right call and when he pitches it, it's the right call.

He makes the offense complete, in regards to being 2 dimensional and preventing teams from stacking the box. He's our future, he is a true qb, not an athlete playing qb. I think Russell can break a large majority of our passing records with ease (Disclaimer: that's not saying much)

When he couldn't get in verses Auburn, it destroyed him mentally. He can't run anymore. He can't throw. His a liability.
Is that he sometimes holds the ball too long in the pocket. I don't know if our offense is giving him a check-down or not, but given our pass blocking deficiency we should have a running back sitting on a short route to provide a safety net when nothing else is there. Or just instill in him the instinct to throw the ball away instead of taking the sack.
I absolutely agree that Russell beats Relf in a foot race. Relf may have the longer stride but Russell is indubitably quicker.

I know Relf has to drive you ape ****. I know he held on the ball far too long against Bama and we actually had decent protection and he ate unnecessary sacks.
to last year ? (as well as his run game ) ...... Relf was a little under the radar as far as our offensive scheme went last year ..... this year all an opposing team had to do was to watch last years film and load up the box and that stops Relf ... another question - I dont understand why we run so many QB dives into the INTERIOR of the line .... qb keeper is effective in moderation, but we have turned it into one of our most called plays .... I don't think this is Entirely on Relf
If my math is correct, Russell actually averages more ypc than Relf (if you take out the sacks). He obviously doesn't run as often as Relf but he is more effective when he does.

Last year our line, tightends, and fullback were much better at run blocking than we probably realized. Relf had more opportunities to run over guys due to 1-on-1 matchups. This year he'shad two guys waiting for him no matter where he trys to run.

I've been telling people that Relf's career ended on the 6 inch line at Auburn. When Dan ran him out there on 2nd and 5 the other night, he could have gotten the same production with the same play call to Russell. Maybe better because the element of surprise would have been there. Relf is useless now. He obviously can't throw. He's useless on the run as he doesn't run fast or hard. Ask yourself this...when is the last time Relf "trucked" someone on a run? The answer is Auburn.

Next year will be Russell or the Dwarf or someone else. Let Relf take a snap or two if we get ahead, otherwise Russell will do as much - probably more than Relf to help us win the last three games - assuming we go to Nashville or Memphis. Before you comment - I hope we sneak up on Arky this saturday. We are due one unexpected win this year and It wuld hurt feelings in Pig Land, which would make me feel good a smuch as seeing the Dogs win in LR.

In fact it's worse when he is in because he can't pass. We don't run the ball as well with him and we don't throw as well with him and that has been the case the entire year. There is absolutely no reason for Relf to be in the game, and I hate it for him because he has worked his *** off for our football program. I love you Chris, but you have brought nothing to the table this year. Nothing. If Russell goes down, Relf should still be the backup. That's just the way it is. If we had a dominant O line, it might be a different story.
