The worst is that Chizik will in fact be back next year.....

....I know this for a fact. Unless they do something that absolutely just forces a hand, like get beat by Alabama A&M. But as of now they know 3-9 is virtually a certainty and Chizik will not be fired.

After this year his buyout is like 7.5 mil. If I'm the AD, I'm not firing him.

With the NC only two years removed, you can only catch so much heat from fans to fire. That much cash, you keep him another year at least.

They aren't delusional, it's pretty obvious Chizik's not the man for the job....

....but the reason you have to keep him is just fairness, and respect to a guy who won you a National Championship. No decent coach wants to take a job where they fire you two years removed from the school's first title in 51 years. But I think we all know Chizik won't get the job done next year and will likely be fired, but they know they have to keep him one more year, short of pulling another JUCO recruiting miracle out of the hat. We all want them to keep him, that tells you all you need to know.

In short, they aren't delusional about Chizik's coaching ability, but they are delusional about what has to be done for their program to succeed long term.

It's not going to be quite 7.5 million if he gets another coaching job.

If he does in fact get another coaching job, which I assume he would, the salary he would receive through the year 2015 would be deducted from the buyout amount Auburn owes him, which would be 7.5 million after December 1st. So if he gets a high coordinator salary, which I think he could draw, Auburn may get out of another million or so with him getting another job.

Add to that the fact they get to pay him the total buyout over 3 years and you really aren't that hamstrung for money if you get rid of him after December 1st when they buyout drops from 10 million to 7.5 million.

I think there is a chance Chizik will keep his job if he goes 3-9, but if he loses to either New Mexico State or Alabama A&M, he's finished.

The troubles have compounded lately. Tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen and right tackle Avery Young, who started the first three games, are out for the season.

And to cap off a very bad last couple of months for Chizik, apparently his mother passed away last night. As we saw toward the end of JWS's tenure sometimes seems like for coaches when it rains it pours.
