Most of those guys, outside of Narduzzi who the jury is still out on, are at programs that naturally bring in a ton of talent. We don't have that luxury with Ash. He needs to be able to recruit, but he isn't going to win games based off of talent. Rutgers needs someone who can win through coaching and schemes. Ash isn't that guy, and it's unrealistic think he can turn into that guy.
Cali is right. Unless Ash I bringing in Top 5 recruiting classes, he isn't going to win many games when his defense is giving up 3rd and 17s.

What specifically turns you off about him?

He's a control freak who hasn't won anything as a HC to be that kind of coach. He seems like a smug know-it-all who again After his way without having won a thing. He can't coach on game day but class himself a HC. No strategy, no clock management, no variety, no coaching up. He should go back to being a Coordinator or Asst Coach where he belongs.

Mostly that he was never offered a power 5 head coaching job . Looks like Hobbs is just enamored with Urban's recommendation . It's just Rutgers being Rutgers with a cheap hire
He was offered the Syracuse job before the RU offer and Urban recommended that he take the RU interview and job if offered. Uran's advice was that Syracuse has no recruiting base, and RU has a good one. He told Ash that college coaching is all about the recruiting.

And he has done a wonderful job tapping that recruiting base, right? We can’t get any top 10 NJ recruits

So we hired a guy that has to be told that college football is all about recruiting? Most 12 year olds know that.

Well Urban may have underestimated the importance of who’s doing the recruiting.

Urban in NJ would lock down the State of Rutgers and beyond in a week.

Chris Ash? Well ....

I'd like to reiterate @ATIOH 's post from 2017. I'm not even sure if this guys around any longer, he hasn't posted since March. But his words regarding this thread are just so eloquently expressed for the world to see. Live on ATIOH, live on brother where ever you may be.

Thanks @koleszar. Life has gotten in the way the past couple months and I haven't been able to post.

I'm a silver lining, glass half full, whatever-cliche-you-want-to-use kind of guy. You have to be if you're a long term fan of this program.

Anyway, the timing is one silver lining. Post-signing day, before summer camp, dead (media) period, etc

Hey we are getting 2 out of the Top 20 NJ Recruits each year.
So 10% of your home state’s top talent is buying into you and your Staff’s vision for the future at Rutgers. As good as Schiano ? Not even close or anywhere near what a P5 Program should be built upon. But is better than Flood’s track record so that is a positive.

Ok. I am still hoping we don’t get smashed this year despite today’s news.
Youre a loser, this thread was stupid then and is stupid now,

how long you been waiting to bump your own thread and toot your own horn, it was corny then and is corny now...it's not creative and doesn't even rhyme..

Maybe, just maybe, it would be a little tiny bit cool if someone else bumped your thread from 3 years ago, but you are reaching man....u been sitting on it a long time haven't you...and I'm sure we will see it again if CA was ever fired

OK so who would you replace him with? Keep in mind that you only have $2 million so you can't bring in any big name coaches or coordinators.

May I suggest Al Golden. He should have gotten the job in the first place.
I gave your post a like only because I admire people who stick to their guns, no matter how messed up that gun is:

And he got his own guy who’s ceiling is 6 wins and that might be generous
Let's see after this year and next.
A couple of obvious things have to happen. McNulty has to get the offense going. If he does, and if any of the QBs steps up (probably Sitkowski), this will be a different team. I'm less worried about defense, but Ash has to galvanize this team and not let the recent events cause a distraction.

I don't think bashing his performance as a head coach is fair considering the roster he was left, especially linebackers, quarterbacks and WRs.

No more excuses this year. It is a pivotal year. 5 wins is the absolute floor. Six wins and we are the right course. Recruiting should improve from there. That's my hope.

Being cheap gets you nowhere. Play to win at this level.

And I agree that being cheap will get you nowhere but Rutgers is not going to spend $5 million on a coach so when people complain about Ash I just want to know who they would rather have within our current budget. If Al Golden is the best they can come up with then Ash was a homerun hire.

If that’s the attitude we are going to have then we don’t belong in this league .

Rutgers must not realize the meaning of ROI with these cheap hires. Spend to get a legit HC, win, and your money will end up being very well spent. We haven’t gotten there yet to figuring this out.

Better rethink that;
His first HC position was at Bowling Green , where he turned a 2-9 program into an 8-3 one and earned Mid-American Conference coach of the year honors.
The next year 9-3 and on to Utah where he went 22-2 in the two years he was there .

Ash deserves time, but Urban was successful from the beginning and shown HC talent from his first year as a HC
