Been waiting a long time to say “great win over Reynolds”. Hell of a defensive game. Like the 13-12 Reynolds win in April. Asheville wins 6-5.
The conference winning streak for Reynolds ends at 48. It was only fitting it would be us. It was a hell of a run by them and they could have just as easily won this game.

I still hate them. Respectfully

Go cougars

6-5 wow. So was it 3 FGs and a safety? Or a TD, FG & safety? Like SHS said I don't think I've ever seen that score in high school football.
It was 2 FG’s by Asheville and a FG and safety for ACR. Asheville snapped a punt over punters head and he did an amazing job of keeping ACR from recovering in end zone. Hats off to their kicker!

Also I’d like to congratulate Asheville on their win. It was a great game, great atmosphere and worthy of a conference title game. Maybe we can do it again in the playoffs, if not see ya in 2022. Best of luck guys!

Man I really don't know if I've ever seen a high school game that didn't have a TD. That's crazy.

I've seen several but the most unusual was in 1968 when Reidsville beat High Point Andrews by the score of 2-0....only score came after a Reidsville punt was downed inside the HPA 1 yd. line and Reidsville tackled the runner for a safety on the next play....only score of the game....But a 6-5 score in this day of free for all football scores is most unusual.....................

It feels like AHS and THS are both pushing for the winning programs of old??? Congrats Coooogaaasss! When is the last time Shane lost this many games to start the season? Cort must be the real deal!?!? Noticed some ACR names on the AHS roster as well....isn't that a bit of a flip flop from what we typical would see in the past? Again, great win CT and the AHS Coogs!

I don’t know if it’s a flip flop because this happens both ways over the course of a 4 year cycle. Kids wanting more playing time or the ball in their hands more and they jump ship to the other team. It’s something ACR and AHS have grown accustomed to. Actually Erwin and TCR have also been involved as well just not as much lately. The kids on AHS roster from ACR didn’t make huge impacts in this game. This was about execution and they did it better then us this week. Cort (a Reynolds alum) is very good at what he does and I know he wanted to beat his alma mater. Hats off to Asheville and who know maybe the playoffs we meet again……

Great win for Asheville, but Player2020, you are correct. We have little talent in WNC this year. Not sure if everyone is young or a changing demographic as a retirement destination. Even our major programs, Murphy, ACR, etc. are down. I think fewer people are playing football in todays world also. You have your old school communities like Canton and Robbinsville where football still is #1, but it is definitely diminishing in the other areas. Much like society and work ethic, football is too difficult for the iPhone generation..

Maybe it's kids these days, but you can't forget about the private school factor. This year Rabun Gap has a kid from Andrews committed to VA Tech and a kid from Tuscola committed to Minnesota. Asheville School has a kid who went to Asheville Middle that is committed to Duke. There's still talent in the mountains, but not as much of it is playing for the local public school team.

Correct, several kids from Tuscola have left over the years to go to the private schools. It seems to be happening in all sports there. I never fault a kid for having a better opportunity and taking advantage of it.

I can't speak for anyone else but the football demographic in Murphy is changing, anyone can take a look at Murphy's varsity and JV teams this year and see that the black athlete pool isn't nearly what it's been at Murphy for most of the last 50 years. It's a taboo subject I guess but the fact of the matter is I'm not sure Murphy wins a single state title out of their 10 without the contributions of black athletes. If that talent pool is finally falling off than you can forget about Murphy being the Murphy of yesteryear no matter who is coaching the team.
