Personally,
I grew up an Alabama fan and am still an Alabama fan (lived in Alabama). I went to school at MSU because of a certain program that was not offered at Bama. Therefore I do not agree with some arguments I hear about people not going to school where they are fans. I went to school to get an education, not to cheer for my favorite team. I am a fan of both schools, but will always cheer for Bama. My wife is exactly opposite. She is diehard Bulldog, but also cheers for Bama when they are not playing State. We still go to Tuscaloosa at least once a year and sometimes more if State plays there that particular year.
I would agree that alot of Bama fans can be very obnoxious, live in the past, and such. But there are also fans that are realistic and sane. I have friends that belong in both categories. Its a classic case of the "cant see the good for the bad". I will be the first to make fun of the redneck Alabama fan as well as any other school. I guess I just like to make fun of rednecks in general. And I will oppose any unrealistic, idiotic statement that a Bama fan tries to make. But I also remember a lot of State fans talking about contending for the West last year. Bama hasnt won a NT in 17 years and hasnt won an SECT in 11 years. They have a lot to do before they deserve to be a national power again, but they are on their way. And if they get there, the fans will have every right to brag about what their team has done.
Bama fans wearing Houndstooth hats has become a trend, but is more of a tradition. Its nothing different than State fans ringing cowbells. How many people were around when the cowbell became a tradition at MSU?
The team I loathe the most is Auburn, but Ole Miss is right up there since I have been to State and now live back in MS because of my wife.
