So for the first time. I have no idea who would replace Hart and Brookes. Would anyone even be willing to that is decent?

What do you guys think? Do we get anyone worth darn? Any rumors of who we may be looking at it?

Any realistic choices that would replace them?

Isn’t this the same thing we did when cal left??? Start from scratch just 2 yrs ago, doesn’t seem to me that’s the formula for success although maybe pope knows this is put up or shut up so he’s completely blowing it up for one last run.
Yeah I have no idea. Maybe Tayshuan Prince would be a replacement/recruiter. Right now next year may be the darkest UK basketball year ever.

Not even close.

Nothing will be darker than 1988-89. The NCAA hammer hadn’t even fallen, the team went 13-19, coach Sutton resigned after the season amid nationwide calls for his head, and we were staring down a multi-year postseason ban, TV ban, loss of scholarships and all of our players were allowed to transfer without penalty.

This is very minor compared to that. Worst case here is we suck next year, fire the coach and hire another one while still being eligible for postseason tournaments, televised games with a full compliment of scholarships.

A case could be made for “worst since 1989” but nothing will be worse than that year. That’s what darkness truly felt like.

Why would a good assistant come? They know Pope is gone
next year & they may stand a good chance not to be retained by
a new coach.

IMO nobody that is good is not going to put their current position in
harms way for maybe 1 year.

WE have been put in this position by not firing Pope now.

Honestly, I’d be surprised if any of us know enough about who is or would be a good assistant to have an opinion worth reading. The former players and other names we know from the past that will get thrown around are just that: names of people we know or rooted for in the past. Pope should know and/or have the contacts to figure out who projects to likely be good as an assistant at UK. Of course, many will immediately hit on that to say “Pope is clueless,” etc. – but that’s emotional frustration, not well-informed opinions.

But one thing I do believe is that UK has enough Asst. Coaching positions that they can fill one or two with a guy that can bring a great player with him. I don’t think Pope or any other CBB coach is or should be above that obvious pandering.

1989 was a birthday party compared to the last several years spanning back to our 9 win season. Everyone knew we would be back and there would be stronger than ever. We haven’t had a good season since that nine win and we’re kind of primed to have a yet another tournament miss I mean, like I say we knew that was short run. It was gonna get fixed. No one has instilled any confidence. This is getting fixed. It kind of seems like if it gets fixed it’s gonna have to be with Mark Pope.

To be the darkest year, it would have to beat out the point shaving scandal in 1951, the Eddie Sutton money in the envelope scansal in 1989, and any Billy Gillispie year (207-209). I lived through all of them.

More money than every other school will pay except maybe four or five. Nice little paycheck for a year. Besides that I wouldn’t have a clue who we get.

Just bring in the best DII head coach to be associate head coach for a year along with some of his team to cut back on costs.

Then if he goes on to be the next Ben McCollum in a few years, he could be a candidate to come back as head coach one day…

I’m completely joking but still love the idea.

Leave NBA front office gig and better salary to work for and under a lame duck Mark Pope?
Probably what they'll do with Nazr and his son Sir Mohammed. I kid, kind of.
