Friday morning, the day before the Oregon game, and only 2 of the 10 most current topics are related to current season Nebraska football. One is about tickets and the other about a quote from coach Stewart.
So, I have a theory about that. Not sure if I'm in the minority on this, but I'm guessing there are many Husker fans hoping for victory tomorrow, but dreading defeat. Each "big game" scenario that has played out over the last decade has mostly ended in disappointment or even embarrassment. My guess is that a significant portion of the fan base is hopeful for the best, but conditioned to be guarded in their optimism. This malaise has worsened with each loss on the national stage, and will only rectify when we bag a few marquee wins. Winning cures everything, of course.

Are you saying we've been deplorable?
Well done. I gave myself a pretty significant board vacation for taking political jabs too seriously.

I am feeling a lot more confident with this staff with regard to playing a big game. I don't think that we will be embarrassed but disappointment is a possibility especially if we play well enough to win or make a critical mistake that costs us a win.
I really think that we can stop Oregon by eliminating the big play and forcing them to have to drive down the field in ten plays or so to score. I think that the outcome of this game ultimately comes down to how well our offense can move the ball on the ground. If Ozigbo has a good game then I think that we will win.
I think the real message is this board is for everything outside of talking football...
I've been here for a while...I could list a few other reasons this board has dissolved into nothing. It's not worth the time to type. It didn't have to be this way but that ship has long sailed..
GBR
The current state of the team and the program has been discussed quite a bit on here this week. I don't really know what more kind of discussion you are looking for. And please, spare us the "this board is going downhill". I've been on here 13 years and I've been hearing that for a long time.
Your childlike obsession with a couple posters and inability to just walk away or turn the other cheek contributed to one of the most interesting posters leaving. You could not resist picking a fight where there was none. You were banned and warned repeatedly, and still couldn't help yourself. I didn't even like one of the guys, but he brought more insider info than anyone before or since, so pat yourself on the back for being one of the reasons this board has turned a little soft.
However, everything is cyclical, it will be back. Winning football games would be a great first step. You'll notice the better the football team, the higher the chance the board is more football related and more interesting.
Something too, some people ejected over the last year or so were some of the more prolific posters, that mostly talked about football and other sports programs. Other fairly active posters appear to have lost interest, much like the "I decided to rake the leaves instead of watching the game" guys near the end of pelini's time. Or they chose to quit more recently, rather than be take the brunt of personal attacks.
I have seen some names on other boards that used to be used on here, same people?, I don't know. Even take a look at rss, there are some names that used to be here. BTW, it would be relevant for me to say that this is not my first username and I first started lurking here in the Callahan days.
I don't start very many threads, I don't consider myself a super active poster either. If people want to talk football, someone has to start the threads. At some of the other message boards, more sports news articles are used to generate new threads. The population here is still relatively high.
As far a jflores' debbie downers, I can't think of one hard-boiled hater on this board that is at least fairly active posting. This board experienced an all-N movement early after the Riley hiring that to me is different than the other message boards. The proportion of all-N'ers, the zero tolerance to anyone that discussed Riley in anything but the most positive way, and the scope of the ensuing personal attacks.
And so now, here we are.
I just said there seemed to be more of them here. I can think of precisely one guy on another board, I can find at least three guys on the front page threads here who tend to pick at the staff when they can.
Its not like a huge big deal, the bigger deal to me is that basically any sort of football info has vanished. Its easier to get elsewhere. Judging by the contents of this board for example, one would think we haven't recruited in about 3 months, about the only thing that is posted is "N" threads. We have a CB rated higher than Lenoir official visiting for the Illini game and I don't recall any discussion of it here. I also don't recall any discussion of any of the new WR targets, or trying to flip OJ Tucker from like GT I think was the school (he is also a CB).
There's quite literally a ton of NU football going on, that if you solely read this board, just isn't there.
