I like where they have us.... Laughable the credit they are giving LSU, A&M and Miss. Hope the disrespect continues. The 2014 team will shock some folks. I'd rather them not be ready.

Maybe we can work a trade w/ Mizzou and swap divisions. That would happen and the West would turn back to the days of Shula, Hallman, Nutt, O, etc.....

LSU at number 3? That's insane. They lost their entire offense.

Two NFL receivers, a NFL type QB, a NFL running back and two NFL offensive lineman.

Athlon is the worst. Are we even at the deadline for declaring for nfl draft? should at least wait until that.

say state was able to build a team with johnny manziel at qb, treadwell and matthews at wr, hill at rb, the best o line in the sec, the best defense in the sec and ask yourself if you really think any major publication would have state in the top 3 of the west. i have serious doubts that they would. we will never get our due respect until we have long-term sustainable success at a high level for sec standards.

what were we ranked pre-season in '98 when we went to atlanta. something tells me we werent even top 3 then.

MSU was a consensus 4th in preseason '98, but Sporting News and Phil Steele picked y'all 2nd, which would be considered major publications. You can find it here: http://preseason.stassen.com/consensus/1998.html#sec

If you look at the final standings, they got it all messed up for the West. Arkansas was picked last and finished 2nd. LSU was 1st, finished 5th. Auburn 2nd, finished last.

The East was pretty much nailed, just flipping the top two.

I just wish we could trade Auburn for Mizzou. Auburn is not far from the Eastern time zone anyway. They belong over there. They could make Bama their permanent and they'd still play Georgia every year. Bama and Tenn rivalry is no longer competitive. It's the perfect East/West swap.

per your link, athlon lists us at 6th which would be consistent with their proven ignorance and accomplish what they are designed to do...sell magazines. good business model, ****** insight. unless there is some abomination to the football (read arkansas), we will most likely always be picked to finish last or next to last. that said, im sure they have been right a lot of times as well, but i feel quite certain that its not because of some revelation they had, rather just ****** football on our part.

hell, in '99 they STILL picked us dead last even when we won the division the previous year:

98:6th Actual: 1st
99:6th Actual: 2nd

00:4th Actual: 3rd

10:6th Actual: 5th
11:4th Actual: 5th
12:6th Actual: 4th of 7 teams
13:5th Actual: 5th of 7 teams
14:6th Actual: ?

when athon is off, they are WAY off. they entertain, not strive to make accurate predicitons.

* = as much as i dont want to give athlon credit, i still wont give them credit because everyone knew we were teh suck.

from the '98 season just for shiggles.

3 listed us at 2nd (sporting news, phil steele, ats cons)
3 listed us at 3rd
2 listed us at 4th
7 listed us at 5th (football action, street and smith, jim feist, c&pf news weekly, jeff allen, sports form, & jeff cline)
6 listed us at dead last (athlon, lindy, bob griese, game plan, preview sports & dunnavant)

composite shows a total score of 94 good for 5th place in a 6 team division. point is, we wont get any respect until we consitsently produce teams that demand respect or possibly getting a little lucky and have the stars align or a combination of the two. we might be in the midst of the latter. only time will tell.

While I think they are all good players, you sort of have to be an upperclassman to show development. If Nkemdiche isn't any better next season, he didn't develop.

LSU and Bama will be down next year. I don't care how many top recruiting classes you have; you just cant replace the experience you have lost to early draft and graduation over the last 3 years. LSU last couple of recruiting classes have not panned out. And thats according to their asst coaches. Ole Miss. well last year should've been their year. Honey Bo Bo is not the hot QB they thought he was and losing Montcrief is going to hurt. I would take CJ and Mckinney over the N;dem Brothers any day. A@M. Sorry but the team is now in the draft. Auby. well they are going to be tough as hell and Arky, they're still years in the hole.

Weren't those all 4* and 5* players? If so, how would their good play prove that Freeze is a good developer of talent any more so than Chris Jones proves that Mullen develops his guys?

Before anyone takes this the wrong way, I'm not implying that DM can't develop players. Just that a guy like Chris Jones or the list of OM guys wouldn't necessarily prove that.
