Armed Police have opened fire and shot an intruder inside the grounds of the Houses of Parliament amid reports a car drove into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge.

Several shots were fired at around 2.35pm moments after a loud bang was heard near the grounds of Parliament.

Three bodies were visible on the floor outside Parliament and the Palace was placed on an immediate lock down.

Others were seen lying in the road on Westminster Bridge, where reports suggest around six people were knocked down by a car.

Prime Minister Theresa May is said to have been bundled into a car by a plain-clothes police officer and driven quickly from the scene.

Police are then believed to have shot a man who tried to enter the Parliamentary Estate.

The Air Ambulance landed in to Parliament Square.

Twelve police cars and vans were outside the Palace in the moments after the incident.

The dramatic incident comes weeks after it was revealed that UK security services have foiled 13 potential attacks in less than four years, while counter-terrorism units are running more than 500 investigations at any time.

The official threat level for international terrorism has stood at severe, meaning an attack is 'highly likely', for more than two years.

Liberal Democrat transport spokeswoman Baroness Randerson said countries seem to have been 'singled out based on religious beliefs'.

'Of course safety is paramount at all times and we all need to remain vigilant but this ban needs to be explained in detail,' she said.

This is the exact reason we need strict gun control in the US.

Agreed. Had the assailant used a firearm the deaths would be substantially higher. Kudos to the UK, those Trump spying bastards.
Apparently shots were fired (not sure who at this point) and I'm fairly certain firearms are illegal in the UK.

The leading cause of death is life. If people were not allowed to live then terrorism would stop immediately.

Or it could have been the cops shooting.

We don't know yet. Multiple reports, as usual, differ. We will have to wait and see. But since this attack occurred on the anniversary of the attack in Brussels, I think we can safely assume this was a terrorist attack.

But as we saw in Nice, vehicles can be far more deadly than guns. As we saw in NYC, planes can be far more deadly. As we have seen around the world, bombs can kill more people than guns. Terrorists will always find some kind of weapon to inflict as many deaths as possible.

On the other hand, there have been so many terrorist attacks that any new one is bound to fall on the anniversary of some other attack. (I'm not completely serious about that.)

I'm not certain you would place a bet that terror was not involved in this attack, right?
