A congressman from (where else?)Illinois has introduced HR-45 which would require all guns, owned now or purchased in the future to be licensed. The federal govermnent would be required to maintain a list of guns and gun owners. I don't know how to post links, but this is it.

www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/show

Don't think we can count on the licensing procedure to be "reasonable." We can surely forsee that we will have to demonstrate a "need to own" to the bureaucrats in charge, and if they don't think you need to own a gun, you won't be licensed. Then you can join the line to turn in all you own.

Also, a government list of firearms is an open invitation to "reasonably" confiscate guns that no private citizen "needs to own."

I don't think our Representatives and Senators in Mississippi will vote for this, but spread the word to all you know in other states.

even much of a hunter.
just what we need: another government deptartment to soak up/waste money.
Second Amendment/The Constitution mean nothing to these "representatives".
for the greater good, they may say? how many people get murdered using a hunting rifle?

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.</p>

----------</p>

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.</p>

----------</p>

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945; millions who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.</p>

----------</p>

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.</p>

----------</p>

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.</p>

----------</p>

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.</p>

----------</p>

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.</p>

----------</p>

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.</p>

"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? After all, you knew ahead of time that those bluecaps were out at night for no good purpose. And you could be sure ahead of time that you'd be cracking the skull of a cutthroat. Or what about the Black Maria sitting out there on the street with one lonely chauffeur - what if it had been driven off or its tires spiked. The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!"</p>

Alexander Solzhenitsyn
Russian Man Of Letters - Dissident
Gulag Archipelago</p>

We would be better served by keeping our weapons and banning the state.</p>

Cheers,</p>

i'll say this was one of the last places i'd expect to see a Solzhenitsyn reference...!

I got an email this Am about a bill to make it illegal to sell uncoded ammunition after June 30. What's this all about? Isn't it already necessary to sign paperwork when you buy a gun or ammo?

At least in Mississippi. Face-to-face gun purchases between two private Mississippi residents require no paperwork to be filed. My understanding is that only when you buy a gun retail or through a licensed FFL (federal firearms licensed) dealer is paperwork required.

When they come for my registered guns, though, they will be informed that they are at the bottom of the Ross Barnett reservoir following a tragic boating accident...

the brass (after firing) to be imprinted with a "code" unique to the gun that fired it. Hence, uncoded brass is from a gun that doesn't do that.

Only problem is, the technology does not exist to code the brass - so, turn 'em in boys.</p>

I also heard that Wal Mart was going to phase out the sale of .308 and .223 ammunition based on the fact that they are "Assault Weapon" rounds. I have no confirmation, but it has been discussed on many shooting web forums. However, I did look for a box of .308 rounds during deer season and I could not find any at Wal Mart...

in Congress and every state legislature around the country every year. I wouldn't be worried until it actually progresses to a point where it has a chance of becoming law. My guess is that this one is DOA.
