Obviously, their athletic director should be fired. I mean after all, two years ago they only won 3 games. Can't jeopardize the bowl streak, right?

If you want to compare Auburn and Mississippi State's program - go right ahead. There is no comparison between the two.

When we play for two national titles in 5 years, I won't complain about anyone we schedule.

OM play Boise State
Missouri plays UCF and Indiana
Kentucky plays Louisville

Are we not comparable to those programs either?

We would be shitting all over ourselves if our OOC schedule had UCF and Indiana on it. There would be people lined up with pitchforks and torches from the AD building to Corky's.

Tennessee scheduled Oregon. How did that work out for them this year?

I don't care who anyone else schedules. I care who we schedule. And we had an extremely tough schedule this year. We don't need that. We should schedule easy OOC games and not apologize to anyone for it.

What are you talking about? This isn't a hypothetical....

Just this past season we lost to Oklahoma State and it almost cost us our bowl streak. We also likely would have been chosen for Nashville instead of Memphis had we played an easier team and finished with 7 regular season wins (not that that matters much because the Liberty Bowl was fine).

It's also pretty obvious that Missouri didn't expect UCF to be any good when Missouri scheduled them. And Indiana? Why even bring them up?

We had a Top 5 toughest schedule in the nation this year. I'm all for playing 4 easier teams and lowering that to the #10/15 toughest schedule. Indiana could be one of those easier teams, it doesn't have to be Alcorn or Jackson State.

i wouldnt mind playing those mighty 5-7 hoosiers. as a matter of fact, thats exactly the kind of team we need to schedule as our 4th ooc.

I agree. There are basically 5 to 10 teams i wouldnt want to see us schedule:

Ohio State
Oklahoma
Florida State
Oregon
Clemson
Miami (after they get their shot together)
USC

I would have no problem if we schedule Virginia Tech in Nashville to start the year. Can you imagine the buzz that would be around MSU Football if Dak put up 400 yards and 5 TDs against VT to start the year?

It's time to stop beating that horse. You're not going to sway anyone that thinks our schedule is already tough enough because we play in the toughest division in the toughest conference in the nation. You're not going to be swayed, because, we'll, there's nothing left of the horse you're beating on. How about we finish in the top 3 in our own division before we start pounding our chest and declaring ourselves as world beaters.

How much excitement and momentum are we carrying into next season because of our bowl game? It almost didn't happen. Bowl games are more important than fans being able to stroke their ego, and then bitching for all the world to hear when we lose games.

How about our 2011 schedule--ranked 31st--or our 2010 schedule--ranked 42nd--for a nice middle ground.

And I'd not that in 2012, when we played the 71st ranked schedule, we got a Gator Bowl birth that we probably didn't deserve.

While in not saying we should never have a historically weak BCS team on the schedule, the problem is that you can never tell where they will be in several years. Witness Georgia Tech and WVU in recent but thankfully fading memory.

IIRC neither of those would agree to play us during the Byrne era. I don't think the answer would be any different in 2014.

Myself, after seeing the result of this flawed line of thinking with the OSU game, I don't want to see any OOC opponent remotely approaching respectability until we have a new trophy that has the word "champions" emblazoned on it without being preceded by the word "bowl".

vandy regularly plays wake forest, duke, army etc, auburn plays utah st and washington st, lsu plays washington, aTm plays rice, uk played indiana, arkansas plays rutgers....i mean, everyone is doing it...why the hell can we not get on board with the rest of the sec? surely some of these type teams wouldnt mind doing a home and home. we just look stupid scheduling conference champions from bcs (former bcs) automatic qualifying teams excluding the big east. we need to schedule decent teams that we match up well against. simple as that. we are mississippi state...hell, even the big dogs in our conference are setting up easier schedules and their schedules are inherently easier because they dont have to play themselves for a likely sec loss whereas we dont get to play ourselves for a hard-fought, yet probable sec win.

I still feel we should get back to playing Memphis and Tulane every year home/home, and I truly would like to see us schedule home/home with teams in a similar position to us in a BCS conference like Indiana or Wake Forest, MISS Southern, then we can play a SWAC or other D2 team as our fourth OOC game.

Everyone knows how difficult the SECWest is, but why does basically every other team in the division match-up with someone with a pulse OOC except us?

Arkansas plays Texas Tech
OM plays Boise
Auburn plays Kansas State
LSU plays Wisconsin
Bama plays West Virginia

Plus, we act so worried about our OOC getting in way of our ultimate goal - going to a bowl game - but isn't LSU's, Auburn, and Bama's ultimate goal a SEC and National title? How is it that those programs are willing to take on such a heavier load with such a smaller margin of error? If LSU loses to Wisconsin and Bama, their season falls short of expectations. Why does their AD continue to schedule these In-Season Bowl Games then?

You guys keep acting like our OOC schedule should be a function of the program's progress. If that's the case, are we really that far behind Arkansas, OM, and Kentucky? We are good enough to start pushing ourselves more.

And everyone advocating this position is willing to continue buying their season tickets at the same price to see us play 6 home games occasionally so they can watch us play against powerhouse Purdue in Lafayette, Indiana, correct?

Will we make more money with one home game against Purdue -- or 2 home games against Troy? Easy answer, is it not? So, which method is the better ROI?

ND is looking for some SEC teams to play also. I don't think ND has fielded a team in the last 20 years that we couldn't beat. Even the one that went to the BCSNCG last year.
