Away game at Auburn

I'm pretty amped that I got a ticket to Auburn today, especially since I've heard extremely good things about the atmosphere and game day experience. I was just curious to see, does anyone have stories or experience from past trips there or any dealings with some irate fans?

Never had any problems with Auburn fans at all, in six or seven trips. Only thing is, be sure to get to the stadium 30-45 minutes before kickoff. You DO NOT want to miss seeing the eagle fly. Coolest thing in the SEC. He's released from the ramp that's directly behind the visiting fans in that corner of the stadium, so if you're in the lower bowl, keep an eye out for the big cage up there so you can see him take off.

So we may have a pretty decent view on seeing the eagle

  • It's a long haul, but a good, fun trip overall. Fans are/were always friendly while we tailgated, and in the game. Of course, that was before Cam-gate.
  • Jordan-Hare gets a lot of pub, but it's really pretty cozy for holding 80,000 + people. Their fans are really close to the field, so it's very loud, but it somehow feels smaller than it is. In fact, the main sections looks very similar to DWS with both endzones bowled in. Sidenote: From goal line to goal line, DWS has more people*. (*so sayeth the Kang)
  • Get ready for lots (and lots) of ghey cheers. Two Bits, Four Bits -- literally... And I still can't get Botta Getta out of my head, whatever that is.
  • There is obviously some sort of gravity-induced vortex in and around the stadium. There are thousands of what you think are perfect 10's sitting everywhere you look... Then they stand up, and it's just miles and miles of cankles. I'm not sure what is going on over there. It's like the Bermuda Triangle of the Western Division.
  • I'll echo VH. Don't miss the eagle.

it will be hot .... I've never had any problems before andmost of them have been pretty hospitable because in their minds MSU isn't really relevant ..... not sure about that this year though, guess we will see ....any trouble just yell for the pack !

have heard about the bird being trained to drop a load but I didnt see when I went several years back...Their band did come over before the game, faced the State fans and played our fight song which I thought was a pretty classy. This was followed by a severe beating in the football game....

The one time I went the visitor seating was in the southwest endzone corner and the eagle is released from the bottom of the east side upper deck. To translate it to DWS, it would be like releasing the eagle over the students or over D section.

Visitor seating (at least the lower section) has been in the northeast corner for at least ten years. And at least the last three times I went, the bird was released from the top of the ramp, not from the upper deck.

Not saying it wasn't done that way once, but not recently.

....the architects of that fine stadium managed to calculate the precise angle of the field vs. true north so that 100% of the entire stadium would be in direct sunlight for 100% of the time. It's really a remarkable feat.

Yes, yes, bring sunglasses, and bring sunscreen too, and if you're wearing shorts, don't forget to apply sunscreen to your knees and legs. This will catch you by surprise when it's too late.

I was there for the 2001 debacle. I thought it was from the upper deck, but perhaps I looked up after it had left.

With my son, an Aubie fan. It was a very pleasant visit.

That was pre-Cam. I'm going solo this year, and don't know what to expect.
I've been telling folks on Wayne's Auburn board to be nice to us.

I was there once but it was for an Ole Miss game. One of my buddies gave me some tickets because he changed his mind about going. My wife's brother played at Ole Miss and she loved the Rebs. So, I took her to a the game. It was one of the most enjoyable games that I have ever been too. I was in a corner of the lower deck and I don't remember the heat or the sun being a problem but I don't think about the heat much since I worked in it at the time.

The game was the year that Tuberville first left Ole Miss for Auburn and they hated his ***. TT had convinced Auburn to buy FSU out of it's contract to play them and all the Ole Miss fan's kept chanting that FSU Indian chant. It was a crazy game with several OT's. Ole Miss won, and I can't remember going to a better game while not really caring who won.

Your rugged outdoorsmanship aside, you likely don't remember the heat because the State Auburn game has been in early September for several years, and the Auburn UM game has been in late September or October.

Think 95*f not a cloud in the sky- no shade-- humidity at 90% and you have Auburn in early September.

So my boss is an Auburn grad, but not an obnoxious one. As he says, he is a fan, not a fanatic.<div>
</div><div>Anyway, back in 2007 we decided to do a company road trip down for the game. We had 2 State fans in the office and 3 or 4 auburn fans (small company, 10 full timers). So my boss calls up a friend of his in the athletics office and scores us some tickets. They looked like good seats. 6th or 7th row, lower leve', about the 10 or 15 yard line. By the time to the game rolls around, 2 folks had to drop out, so we had 2 extra tickets and he decided to sell them before the game to some random Auburn fans. They seemed nice enough.</div><div>
</div><div>When we actually got to the seats, it turns out we were behind the State bench and sitting amongst player families from Mississippi State. They couple that bought our extra tickets were already in their seats when we got there, and I sat behind them. As I sat down, I reached around and pulled my cowbell out of my shorts and set it down in front of me.</div><div>
</div><div>And the guys says "You might as well put that cowbell up boy. This ain't Starkville!".</div><div>
</div><div>I wasn't sure if he was serious or just sort of joking around. So I just sort of brushed it off and kind of chuckled. About 15 minutes later the team runs out on to the field and I stand up and start ringing my cowbell.</div><div>
</div><div>This guy jumps up, stands on the bleacher in front of me, inches from my face, and just starts screaming like a mad man - the whole time his wife is pulling on his belt trying to get him to sit down.He eventually sat down. I didn't ring my bell much the rest of the game. There were security guards pretty close by that had already made eye contact with me once.</div><div>
</div><div>That guy didn't stay around long anyway. I think he split as soon as Pegues took that interception in for a touchdown in the first quarter.</div><div>
</div><div>Oh, and I did ring my bell at the end of the game as the team was running off the field. All in all, a pretty good day on the Plains.</div>

I went to Auburn last time we played there. As said before, they do release the bird right over the visitor section and its a very neat experience. Their tailgating is very spread out compared to most college campuses. However, if i understand it correctly, on home football weekend all container laws go out the window. Pretty cool. I wish State would do this

But I don't get you are aware that you are a visitor to their home, therefore you should abide by their rules and not bring a cowbell. I don't think our tradition of the cowbell should go away by any means but it is a HOME tradition. If the game were in Starkville they couldn't do anything to you. Have some class leave the bell at home when on the road, unless its a bowl game and they encourage you to bring the bell which many bowl games do.
