So I went trolling around that website and ended up on the stats page. In 5 games, Denico Autry has TWENTY FIVE quarterback hurries and 42 total tackles. He only has 2 sacks and 5 TFL, but still that is just ridiculous. The next highest total for QBH on the team is 6. This guy should be priority 1 for this staff. <div>
</div><div>Other notes, Justin Cox leads the team with 3 INTs and 6 PBUs. Getting Cox back to step in when Banks leaves is going to be nice. </div><div>
</div><div>Landing Autry, Quay, James and Ward would set this team up for theforeseeablefuture. And I can handle losing Ward in exchange for landing Quay and Autry. </div>

why are they using the skull and crossbones instead of their mascot, the lion?
I read the article in hopes of finding an answer. They're not the pirates.

Read the article that was in Sports Illustrated a long time ago about him- it was called "The Toughest Coach Ever"- or something along those lines.

Just google Bull Sullivan and toughest coach ever, and the article should pop up.

Sullivan used to do it to try to intimidate the opponents. Maybe he had some Mike Leach in him.

Sullivan was a MSU grad student I believe- I always wanted us to honor him by putting skulls and crossbones on our special teams guys helmets and bring back the Mad Dawgs that we had when Jackie Sherrill had when he was our coach. Now, I don't want the skull and crossbones to be as big as it is on EMCC's helmets, but something like those little stickers that players get for making plays or doing something good.

You'll also notice that EMCC's jerseys has stars on their jerseys- that's also a tribute to Bull Sullivan as well.

how many junior d-linemen do they have this year? Something like 3-4? And then they have some guys that are already playing a lot as back-ups.

but I think he's implying with possibly Autry, and the rest of teh 4 and 5* lineman committed to Bama, Ward is looking at a definite red-shirt year there where he can come to State and getmajor playing time(if not start)immideately.

Based on the story behind it.

The black skull n xbones isn't the team's normal helmet. It is worn periodically in remembrance of this man.

wear the black skull and crossbones helmets when we wear the black uniforms. Unless of course, we're really going to burn the black uniforms.

No way...If they want him or them....They can get them..You think these recruits give a damn about the depth chart.. Hell no!!...all they care about is the depth of their 17'n wallets....

That's why it is crucial we get this season turned around yesterday.

Nobody said anything about Bama laying off. Hell no they won't lay off, but they will red shirt him.

This from the SI article.

"Away from the field Bull Cyclone could be a different character altogether. In his classroom, where he taught sociology and anthropology, he was, his students said, "like a Sunday school teacher." He got his master's in anthropology from Mississippi State in '66 and spent more and more time working in that discipline. He exchanged a lot of correspondence with Senator John Stennis, who came from down the road in DeKalb, about archeological work in Kemper. A 1968 photo shows Bull Cyclone with three of his students following a dig. In a caption he's quoted as saying, "The only significant find seemed to be a complex of single-shouldered projectile points, found in lower-strata kitter midden. The people who populated this site probably belonged to a Woodland Culture some 2,000 years ago."

The reason I think we should pay tribute to him at MSU is because:

1. He does have a tangible connection to MSU.

2. We don't have a lot of traditions- although that's gotten better lately, no doubt about it.

3. Bear Bryant admitted that Sullivan was tougher than he was. I think it would be awesome since Bryant is essentially a god- our guy at MSU was tougher than your god- what do you have to say about that Alabama?

4. I think it's good to reach out to the JUCO's in Mississippi, and this is a very tangible way to reach out to the CC that is in MSU's territory.

The helmets were worn once last season as a tribute to Coach Sullivan and have been worn in 3 of 5 games this year (player's choice between that and the white helmet with the Lion logo)<div>
</div><div>As for our players... we have a TON of D1 talent on the field... a lot of attention, of course is paid to Denico Autry and Justin Cox (who is already going to State) and for good reason... they can both change the game with the way they play... Denico is a freak of nature athletically and still has the ability to affect every play even when he draws double teams...</div><div>
</div><div>Cox will end up being REALLY good once he develops... the Gulf Coast opener was his first game playing safety for 60 minutes... he had 3 interceptions and one called back on a BS defensive holding call... his conditioning needs a little work, but the kid can flat out make plays and has tremendous athleticism... I think he's Johnthan Banks in a bigger frame...</div><div>
</div><div>There's also another player on our team that should get a lot of looks... RS freshman QB Bo Wallace... came from Pulaski, TN... transferred from Arkansas State and twice has been named offensive player of the week... in his FIRST GAME was named national offensive player of the week against defending state champ Gulf Coast... insanely accurate, deceptively elusive and he'll only get better with time...</div><div>
</div><div>Since I've started working at EMCC following this team around, I've collected quite a bit of video of these guys (most of which you can find on my youtube channel: ViridianSkyProd)... and I totally agree with what someone said a little bit ago, State's relationship with the Jucos needs to flourish especially with the new recruiting rules in the state...</div>

The 1962 Navy “Jolly Roger” helmet features unique, predominately black hued, mysteriously eerie symbols that contrast perfectly against the team’s traditional unadorned brilliant sparkling gold shell. The independent left and right helmet side symbols are written in Chinese and are interpreted in English as “win” (meaning defeat) and “Army.” As noted in Dr. Del Rye’s previously mentioned column the use of the Chinese language by Hardin was a not too subtle mocking gesture to Army’s head coach Paul Dietzel who invented the scrambling style defense nicknamed “The Chinese Bandits” while at LSU. Dietzel brought this style defense with him to Army and claimed that it would effectively contain the Navy offense. Navy won 34-14.
