The updated cost estimates don't appear to be some type of conspiracy, or MD officials looking for Tiffany-type parts. The original estimate was simply a quick, ballpark figure, that was provided in large part to start the process of qualifying for the Federal grant. The most recent cost estimate seems to be a combination of more accurate details being used in terms of what is required, the need to install a pier protection system to avoid a repeat of this incident, as well as the costs of materials, which are substantially higher in all areas of construction over the past several years.

it is somewhat startling that the entire problem, and the crash into the bridge, can be traced to such a simple mistake. NTSB investigations are always of interest to me, as they get down into the nitty gritty, and provide answers (often, like in this case, that weren't speculated by any of the experts at the time), to the question of what actually caused the incident.

I do not know. The Fedetal and State govt's should be suing to collect a large sum from the shipping or insurance companies.

It's a Singaporean ship carrying Chinese exports - guarantee you that Chinese Sovereign Equity own a large portion of the equity of the companies responsible. IOW, good luck collecting.

I have watched some episodes of plane crash investigations, and I agree regarding the NTSB. They do a top notch job in diagnosing why accidents happen. Often with wreckage that is in many pieces. And it is shocking how many accidents are from the simplest of errors or malfunctions.
