I think he was making a reference to Husker QB Mike Grant dropping the ball.Grant against MN? Where did i mention anything of the sort in any of my posts?
that was one hell of a wing dinger. 48-0 and 56-0 vs mn in 89/90 and what relationship does this have to do with BAMA and a L by me? Weirdos.I think he was making a reference to Husker QB Mike Grant dropping the ball.
I mean, they are more likely to hire a Riley/Frost/Bo type instead of another Saban/TO type.Saban -- like Dr. Tom -- knew what he was doing when he retired. The writing was on the wall.
We'll see how much damage Bama does to itself in the next 5 years with coaching changes.
It will be interesting to see if coaches can even maintain success year after year, or if the expectations of coaches(including the pay) needs to be lowered. The game is so different than 10 years ago, and roster depth is almost impossible to build, with depth being the most important factor in running the table or winning nearly all games. Historically, if you aren't having 10-11 wins seasons by year 3, you aren't ever going to win anything important, but winning 10-11, doesn't guarantee you keep a decent roster for the next year, as that comes down to transfers and nil. And even the prospect of winning or the nfl doesn't matter if a team can offer 250k to an average player. I can just imagine the bama players say..."it all pays the same" when they lose a game.Saban -- like Dr. Tom -- knew what he was doing when he retired. The writing was on the wall.

The math doesn’t add up to the speculation. IF Bama was paying large sums of money as speculated and can add that to the 20 million plus NIL they should still have a financial advantage.Yes but now other schools can/will pay more, so now they lose a starter here and there to other schools and it starts to take a toll.
Well, no, because now other schools can/are paying. So now a kid that would have gone to Bama and would get paid 200K under the table can now go to Ole Miss for 400k legally. The under the table stuff is kind of gone now.The math doesn’t add up to the speculation. IF Bama was paying large sums of money as speculated and can add that to the 20 million plus NIL they should still have a financial advantage.
Would we ever want to admit that Saban was giving excellent coaching and many of their players made it big in the NFL with big pay checks to go with that?
Do you guys not get @SuperBigFan69 point here. Saban /Alabama were paying the players when there was no NIL / Revenue sharing. Now everyone is paying the players. Yes Saban at the end was still winning at a high percentage but not dominating like he was pre NIL . All OP and others are saying it’s not a coincidence. The math doesn’t add up to the speculation. Saban "retired" for a reason. It is not like he retired to go fish and relax. He is on ESPN all the time. He just didn't want to deal with how much harder it is going to be to get the best players.
He mentioned the NIL/ Portal era as a reason for “retirement “ and being a big headache. Players always asking for a pay raise etc…. . I believe him when he said that’s the reason . As you said he just didn’t want to deal with the fact he just couldn’t hand a kid an envelope and he would sign with Bama . Now everyone has that ability.Pretty much this

No he retired because he was tired of the NIL /Portal he has mentioned it numerous times. Now that being said it matches up with @SuperBigFan69 point of him not wanting to work that hard to get players because everyone has the ability to ( legally) pay players now .He retired because he was a hundred and eighty six years old...in CFB years.
It's not speculation. Google Logan Young. And he was just one of manyThe math doesn’t add up to the speculation. IF Bama was paying large sums of money as speculated and can add that to the 20 million plus NIL they should still have a financial advantage.

Absolutely. He had nothing left to prove. I don’t blame him at all ...same thing. If he was 50 and still proving himself he would have dealt with all those things, but since he was 72 with nothing left to prove, he said later tater.
I never understood taking pleasure in the pain or misfortune of others but maybe that's just me.
