about something coming down on Auburn in the next few days. Could be a deal where they are trying to scare some recruits, but damn, its almost every thread.

Most about some federal indictments coming down tomorrow

I'm sure everyone is expecting the indictments contain info relating to college football.

That seems to be the case. A few swear that it will be well connected Auburn folks? There is a link over there to a blog where a guy says expect a briefing from D.C. tomorrow about the indictments. (25-30 of them)

before signing day that may end up just being a bunch of BS. I just can't believe that would happen.

He may have much better information than mine, but I think I read that the Feds have to give defense counsel information or disclosure about what evidence (read: wiretaps and what those wiretaps provided) will be used against them in the upcoming trial the first week of April.

Surely some of the information will hit the streets....and it doesn't look good at all for the Board of Directors for Auburn. Truly neck-deep serious horse ****. April will be a month to remember.

The UGA blog Sports and Grits takes a day off from "cold-blooded sausage making" in Georgia to provide insight into the imbroglio in
Alabama:

_________________________________________________

Colonial Bank based in Birmingham, AL failed in August of 2009. The
chairman of Colonial was Bobby Lowder who is also on the Auburn board
of trustees. It is widely held that Lowder is the puppet master of
Auburn's BOT and is the man who had Bill Muse removed as AD. Lowder is
also the man who interviewed Bobby Petrino while T-Tubs was still under
contract.

In 2009 the FDIC seized Colonial and sold its assets to BB&T, and
began an investigation into all of Colonial's operations. It is
believed that in the course of this investigation the FBI has found
overwhelming proof of Auburn supplying the parents of football players
with loans of which they were not required to pay back. It was also
learned that Colonial bank had set up special accounts that were linked
to ATM cards that were then issued to Auburn players giving them access
to funds provided by boosters.

It is expected that in the next few weeks the Justice Department
will had down indictments on Lowder and a number of Colonial executives
over the TARP fraud. Now here is Auburn's problem. If the indictment
specifies about the loans and the ATM linked accounts the NCAA will
have no choice but to launch a full scale investigation. These
actions, if true, dwarf the Alabama scandal of the 2000's that left
Bama one vote shy of the Death Penalty.

If true Auburn will test the alleged "SMU Rule" that no other program
would ever get the DP. Mike Slive is bracing for this and has
apparently informed Auburn that the Conference can do nothing to help.
This makes us wonder if Slive and the SEC offices have been tipped off
that the pay for play scandal will be named in the indictments. Behind
the scenes on all of this it would appear that Slive has been in
negotiations with the NCAA to hand down a punishment that would leave
the Auburn National title in tact while stripping Newton of his Heisman.
The negotiations would also keep Auburn from the DP and in turn
prevent Slive from having to consider removing Auburn from the SEC.
This is especially important for Slive who is nearing the end of his
time as SEC commish and is looking to make one more big move to cement
his legacy as Commish and that move is expanding the conference to 16
teams. Slive has apparently been planning the move for a few years and
almost let the PAC-10 and Big-10 beat him to the punch. With the
current Texas Network mess going on in the Big-12 Slive is waiting to
pounce on A&M and maybe Oklahoma as well (however there is no
interest in Oklahoma St and if Oklahoma balks over that issue the SEC
will move on).

The wire taps were were released for the Scruggs case well before they pleaded. There was even a party that was not even part of the case that went down for vehicular manslaughter after the fact because a lawyer on the wire explainedhow he got evidence thrown out. This person's name was not mentioned but someone connected the dots and the guy pleaded guilty after it was handed over to the DA.

Sadly .. what more than a few have talked about since October, is coming true very soon.
The Meck has learned .. the second wave of federal indictments in
Alabama [re the bingo vote/debacle] will be served in the next few days.

A source with knowledge of the situation told The Meck: 'The Feds will
be knocking on doors early Monday morning, Jan 31st. Maybe sooner.' As
many as 20-25 people will be served with federal indictments, taken into
custody and headed to Montgomery.

A press conference is said to be scheduled for Monday, Jan 31st from Washington D.C.

The Meck will update when I get more info.

Unless there is some random clause in the conference bylaws I don't know anything about, I doubt seriously Mike Slive has the authority to unilaterally kick a member out of the conference. Pretty sure it doesn't work that way.

I hope that's true. We could use some good news right now with all this recruiting crap right now.

And when was the last time the NCAA consulted with a league commissioner regarding how they should mete out punishment? It all sounds great, and probably got a lot of clicks on his blog today, but that sounds like an idiot wrote that article.

so far nobody has accurately hit a timeline on the AU crap. There's tons of speculation on these fed indictments having something to do with AU football recruiting, but that's all it is - speculation. Assuming these indictments have come down and that arrest warrants are served, there's no guarantee that the allegations are connected to AU football recruiting or scam or dyer or the Arkansas pimps or trooper or chet or any of the other well known AU garbage. It's possible that these indictments, if they have come down, relate to the gambling probe only and it is only coincidental that some of the targets are also AU supporters or boosters. Still too early to write the epitaph of AU football.

We'll hopefully know something once the 302s are released, but don't be surprised if the 302s don't get released tomorrow.

It presupposes that the NCAA has all the pertinent info in front of them - info which is rumored to become public from the Feds tomorrow. I don't believe that for a second.

I'm honestly surprised at the douchosity of that whole blog after checking it out tonight. But the Alabama fans that are eating it up in the comments of that article are golden.

I love college football.

Because the story is about something I hope will happen, I think it's a legitimate source and should be believed and the author is brilliant. If he writes something badmouthing State, then he's an idiot.
