Bama vs LSU............. Our Clowns vs UT Martin

I will be DVRing the MSU homecoming gameif I get it hereand watching LSU vs Bama live. It is shaping up to be the biggest college football game of the year, the corndogs' former coach is #2 and trying to beat their current #1 coach, they are on the same side of the conference, it is likely that the winner will end up in the national championship game, and it is also somewhat likely that theteam in that game will be the national champion.

Although, I would not pass up going to an MSU game to instead sit at home/bar/party to watch LSU vs Bama on TV. Go a few years without being able to go to a game in Starkville and you would probably never give up the chance to tailgate in the junction and see the dawgs play just so that you can watch another game on TV. Hell, I'd miss the LSU vs Bama game on TV just to see us play live, no matter if it were at home or an away game.

edit to add: I bet I could watch the entire LSU vs Bama game live and not see more than one live update on the score of our homecoming game (other than maybe the scrolling scores at the bottom of the screen). If I watched the MSU game though, I am certain I would at a minimum get a bi-quarterly update of the score and highlights from the other game. Screw that.

We simply don't have the luxury of having a truly devoted fan base. They are casual fans who won't commit to supporting State the way it requires to build a solid program. They may support the program by buying the season tickets (which is a good thing) but they won't show up when something else is considered more important (deer season, LSU/Bama game, etc).

This is a good spot to say this: Funny how these sports messageboards swear up & down that booing can destroy a program overnight, but abandoning your traditional school for this week's shiny new object is not only okay, it's the preferred course of action.

I grew up an LSU fan and go to State, so I still feel very strongly about LSU. In no way, shape, or form does DVR get the job done in the case of LSU/Bama. You're kidding yourself if you think you'll be able to watch that game and be glued to your seat after you know the score. This will be the first MSU home game I have missed in 5 years amongst many away games I've been to. So if people want to say how bad of a fan I am then oh well, you're incorrect. I am missing a homecoming game (which might be the most boring home game we play every year) against a IAA opponent...to watch a national championship semifinal, LSU/Bama rivalry, and maybe the best, most hyped up college football game any of us will ever have a chance to see. To the people saying 17 Bama and LSU, I don't think you quite realize how big this game is about to be if you truly believe that. I really wish the schedules didn't conflict, but oh well...honestly, its UT Martin.

SEC program with what sometimes resembles a JUCO fanbase. Anyone that does this doesn't have any right to ***** or moan when we aren't a) winning games b) winning recruiting wars c) fighting for a higher tier bowl that doesn't suit your spoiled brat plans d) anything else I'm leaving out.

for not going to see us play THE University of Tennessee at Martin skyhawks. Damn, its a IAA homecoming game and some people are talking about it like its the national championship...which ironically is taking place at the same time. We will win that game by 40 if the stadium has 5 people or 55,000 people. It'll be ok, I promise.

I love watching that game year in and year out. It will most certainly be the best college football game of the year, the winner will be playing in the National Championship, and even that could potentially be a re-match. So yeah, I realize it's kind of a big deal.

But the fact of the matter is that we will never, EVER, make the progress we need to make as a program as long as we have ******** *** fans, students especially, that willingly choose to skip a home game (of which we only have 6 this year) to sit on the couch and watch a game of two teams that we should be trying to compete with.

Florida didn't sell out their home opener this year, snapping a streak of 137 consecutive sellouts. Alabama has sold out every game since 1988. Nebraska has sold out every game since 1962. This whole 3 page thread of half-hearted "but I promise I do love my school" crap would <span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">never</span></span> even have been a topic for discussion at any of those or any other historically winning program.

I was furious after the South Carolina game at the lame, uninvolved attitude of a large number of fans in my section, but this **** is taking it to a whole new level.

but the issue is loyalty to your team.....You are a pathetic excuse for a fan...(hell I don't even want to say fan)....So if everybody had your attitude and there was like 20 people in the stands for 17'n HC, what do you think that would do to the morale of the team?.....Its bad enough we get lose recruits to these pricks every year but when your own fan base chooses to stay at home and watch them on TV that is one reason why we will always be below them.......I bet the your the kind that don't vote and says its because your one vote wont matter....

Damn, I can't believe anyone that considers themselves a State fan would even be considering this. Yes we are going to beat the hell out of UT-Martin but there are also probably going to be recruits there and a full, involved, rocking stadium looks better than a lifeless one with an empty upper deck because some of our douchebag fans would rather watch another team on TV.

when you play joke FCS programs for homecoming, what do you expect? this is why it's worthwhile scheduling a real OOC opponent sometimes. i don't live near starkville, so i wouldn't be going to either game, but i'll be watching bama/lsu and flipping to the msu game during commercials, and hopefully, we should be up big early in the 2nd half and i won't be concerned about the game.

i'm a msu fan first, but i am also a college football fan in general, and a sports fan, and sometimes when the magnitudes are as out of whack as they'll be on 11/5, the latter outweighs the former.

Uh, everyone with half a brain cell plays a nobody for homecoming. Getting your *** kicked byAlabama or LSU on homecoming is a tad of a downer.

No one is saying that it is wrong to watch the LSU/Bama game on TV if you live far away and can't make the State game. However, if you have tickets to the State game, live in Jackson or Tupelo, and stay home to watch LSU/Bama then you are a worthless State fan that has no right to complain about why our program can't get beyondbottom tier status.

Even Saban has come out and publicly ridiculed Bammer fans for being sorry and not being at games and not being loud. Also, if anyone went to the State-Bama game last year, it was obvious that the stadium was 85 percent full, at best. I think we can all agree that all fanbases have sects of crappy fans. Let's don't act like Bama and other top tier programs are immune to this.
