WCBI just reported that Banks is staying at MSU "for as long as he can play football" and then is going to apply to patrol school with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, turning down NFL all together. WOW!!

If being a patrolman is his dream then I wish him the best of luck. However, after being in law enforcement for 16 years, I think I'd take a stab at the NFL first, make a few million, then come back and be a rich highway patrolman!!!!!!!

"I would love to play football for as long as I can, and my career goal of becoming a State Highway patrolman following my football career will be helped by getting my degree before I leave." That's the only one I've seen.<div>
</div><div>If so I interpreted that to mean he's going pro and doing HWY patrol when he's older. He could have meant his college career, but that would be surprising.</div>

Byrd played at USM, then played for the Oilers for 7 years, becoming a Sheriff's Deputy in the off season. After he retired from the NFL, he stayed on and is doing pretty well for himself. Super nice guy.

But really.... I doubt that he shuns the draft next year to be a patrolman. If he does, it's no doubt he will be a good one if he is that dedicated.
