The key to the season...if he performs at a high level, the Cats could surprise and do damage.

Would like to see who the people are. I expect the players and coaches to start the bandwagon. That being said, I'd feel a heck of a lot better if some former players, coach Brooks, and some outside sources start piling on.

My spot is reserved though. Just being cautious after towles bandwagon became lonely.

How is he turning heads? In workouts? In 7-on-7 scrimmages behind the Johnson Center? By his leadership? Agree with others. Too early.

I rather hear this than reports we don't have a clear cut starter. The job is there for the taking but nobody has stood up and grab the spot for themselves. There are questions about all the QB's accuracy. He's got the arm strength but he still needs to grasp the playbook so we have to call audible's from the sideline. He just needs to learn to read the defenses better. etc. etc. etc.

Yeah, I am not sure Roland means. Who? As to what? Non-believers to believers? Pre-summer camp believers? On field or off? So vague it could be relevant or just a waste of characters.

I want the players to have a productive summer, but I'm respectfully not interested in summer camp heroics. I like Barker's upside and I hope he has a great career but I'll believe it when I see it.

Film study, investing time in learning every aspect of playbook, being a leader in team workouts, building trust with your receivers, etc etc....

Many ways to build that kind of confidence this time of year.

All of the above? You can be a leader during workouts. Perhaps he has taken a step up in this department where he hadn't in years past.

Doesn't necessarily translate into success on the field, but damn, I'd much rather hear this type of news than him NOT doing all the right things.

I'm sure it's everyone in and around the program. Perhaps they all see a Drew Barker they haven't seen yet. I'll say it again - this type of report is much better than a report saying he isn't taking things seriously, no?

Sure; but it's also rather hollow positive news, no?

Really? This is a polar opposite from AirSoft escapades and bar fights...

Again, sure; but that's a rather low bar. I'm just saying what many others above have said, hey it's nice to hear but specifics would be nicer, and seeing it translate during the season would be the best.

According to Rowland.

Given the history of Kentucky Football, it is borderline irresponsible to tweet out something like this o_O

Seriously, how many times have we heard this before? It's practically one of our only actual football traditions...always profoundly shattered during the last 6 games (if not sooner) of every single season.

Maybe Matt Pilgrim can come back and be a beast DE for us.

You guys can make anything negative lol. No this is not the same things we have heard regarding the starter. We have had a qb competition every year Stoops has been here. Being a qb is a spotlight position it appears Drew wants to be good. Mix that with his natural talent and we have a 3000 yard passer.

Stoops said about 20 players stayed in school during May to continue to train. The rest took May at home to decompress.

We all get that but the season hasn't started yet so take it for what it is, positive news right now. I may put a little more value on the importance of maturity and discipline to convert to better play (especially at the QP position) so I'm taking as little more positive than others.

Above average Leadership and Decision Maker with average arm > average leadership and decision making with cannon arm anyday. Upside here is Drew already has above average arm so maybe improving in the areas he needed to which would be a real positive.

Don't think anyone who is happy to hear this news is taking this more than its worth.

Barker is the real deal. He has all the tools. Every single tool you need to be a successful big time QB and it's evident as can be if you saw him in high school the kid is a natural. Our future problems will not be QB now that towles is long gone and hopefully quickly erased from our memory. He just needs D1 experience, that's it. And our coaching staff handled that situation as poorly as can be last season he should be much more experienced and seasoned going into this coming season but oh well. the mistake of the staff riding towles coattails is now an impossibility. Which equates to much better days ahead. Couldn't be happier that era is over. Watch and see barker light it up this season and prove why towles shouldn't have touched the field to begin with last season.

I expect major coaching blunders/errors to be our Achilles heel. That and the DL and LB spots are huge question marks, we will get torched by dual threat QB's every game and like every season since stoops has been here we won't make any defensive adjustments to stop it. I expect a much improved OL and a WR core that plays with a lot more passion due to the lamar Thomas hire. Great hire by stoops to land Thomas he is exactly what the doctor ordered for these receivers. Very excited about Barker though he is a huge reason to keep purchasing season tickets. Almost fed up to the point where idk if I can anymore.

I need to see improvement this season. I can't see stuff like what happened in the Vandy and UL games last season. I can't see our team show up just completely unprepared week to week as if the entire team was hungover from night before. I've never seen a team look so unprepared and unready for the games in my entire life. I've seen a lot of outmanned UK teams due to lack of depth and talent get pulverized. But I've never seen a team show up just so obviously unprepared, unready, disorganized, and not fired up in my days of living. And that's 100% on the head coach. That HAS to change THIS season or else it's obvious stoops isn't the man and at that point. He has NOT proven to be an even halfway competent Head coach at this point in his career. He's been very bad at in game coaching. if these things haven't changed by end of season im done with season tickets.

Hope it's true about Barker, but will wait to see proof.

I will say that if you follow Rowland on twitter you'll notice he has been exceedingly "positive" about UK football since last year's debacle. Seems phony or forced, but he generally has a "I'm smarter than you" tone to what he tweets though. Especially the 5 tweets in a row about (something insignificant) that are all one message that I doubt 99% of his followers care about. That said, I guess it's his job to pump out positive UK football news and/or opinion, at least it seems like it's his job. Why else would anyone be so optimistic? Maybe he really is smarter than all of us?

Not sure he has been overly optimistic about UK football at all...

He has been pushing this website and content, more than he used to...but that is because he now runs this site. If you are putting recruiting content as "pumping out positive UK news", then maybe I understand your point.

His job includes providing members on the board with the best and most accurate information available about the program. If he posts or tweets an opinion he identifies it as such.
I can't speak to who is the smartest person on the board but I can tell you that JROW's sources are in, or connected to the program and are very credible with the information he is allowed to pass on to us.

I'm sure many members here who have followed him over the years can vouch for his thoroughness and accuracy.

Never said he didn't have sources or wasn't thorough or accurate. On Twitter, he seems to have gone out of his way to give the vibe that "everything is ok" with UK football since last season. Maybe I'm wrong but almost sounds like he's been hesitant to be too critical or critical at all. That might have to do with not wanting to upset certain people.

It's fine, I just don't get super excited when he mentions things (like relaying people becoming Barker believers or guaranteeing a player will have a break out year (Baker), etc.) cause it seems like it's his job to be overly optimistic.

So far Stoops has won every game he was supposed to win.

People will point to WKU.

Sad thing is WKU was more talented than UK...so I don't think Stoops blew that one.

Stoops & Co. did blow the Vandy game last year...absolutely should've won that, no excuse for it.
