Probably tells you everything you need to know that 7 of the 10 are going to the Sunbelt. Having said that I’d be surprised if Walters doesn’t draw a ton more interest. That guy can play. I’d take him over Roberts on the mound all day

Yep. The other factor is that from a pitching development standpoint Ostrander is the best in the state and it’s not even close.
Yes. And we are a retarded program and fanbase for overlooking Ostrander. Not only is he one of the best pitching developers in the country, he knows where to find those gritty baseball players in this state. He’s won everywhere he’s been at every level. He makes too much sense.

We don’t have any idea what Selmon is thinking. Ostrsnder may be the guy for all we know. And if he is I’m definitely ok with that. Obviously you go after O’Connor first but that’s a long shot. After that we just don’t know.

Obviously, to my point, you don’t go after the Virginia coach first. You go after the guy who has played and coached and won at every level in our state. Not to mention Louisiana. You go with the guy who knows where to look and find gritty baseball players here in our state. The guy who’s done more with less. The guy who knows how to speak their language, knows their culture, what motivates them and how to developed our local guys ect. This is the route we need even more especially in this day and age with what we’re up against. You don’t go with a guy from Virginia over that.

Dude. O’Connor has been to 6 World Series. If you can get him, that’s the biggest hire in college baseball in decades.

Seven trips to Omaha in fifteen seasons, including three of the last four. After going for the first time in 2009, his longest Omaha drought is four seasons (once).

Every program in the country should want this guy.

btw, is this seriously the hot board? Or is this just clickbait intended to leave State fans disappointed when we hire an assistant?

The Virginia coach is just mad that the school is planning to use 95% of allowed allowcated money of a 20 million dollar house settlement for football and men’s basketball. And to me that makes sense and I totally agree with the university’s thinking on that. With that said, we can pay him the same, but the issue is not with his personal pay. This issue is can we promise him more money for recruiting and retention vs Virginia. This about the new landscape of college sports, NIL and transfer portal. I don’t think we should or can afford to get into a pissing match over baseball. That is why Ostrander is the perfect kind of guy or the perfect guy right now. He’s done more with less, knowing where to find and develope the under recruited guys in this state and the neighboring states. Not to mention he’d have the ability with more resources to recruit up some compared to Southern Miss. He makes too much sense and is too practical. He’s like the girl who grew up next door that one day looking back you wish you had given a shot, but instead you wasted your time dreaming of marrying Cindy Crawford and beating off to her sports illustrated swimsuit edition. In this case, you’re beating off to the Virgina baseball coach.

Ostrander has signed high school players and he’s better for the job than BOC?

According to Perfect Game, we have the 5th ranked 2026 recruiting class in the country. OM or USM are not in the top 10. Most of these recruits are not in the top 100 nationally. Which means they will not get drafted and kick out *** for the next 4 years.

Exactly. Do we ever really recruit Mississippi that hard? It’s not usually a great state for producing a lot of talented players. A few but not a lot. Interesting that 7 of the 10 are playing MAIS.
We should. 40% MS, 40% AL and 20% best we can get anywhere else.

I do think we should stay the hell out of LA. We just don’t have success there in baseball. That worries me about coaches who have a lot of experience there.

Not enough good MS players. We need to recruit AL, GA, TX & CA (lot of goid west coast players want to play in the best conference). And be selective in MS.

Against Southern Miss, we’re 6-6, going back since 2018.
I’m arguing against my own self-interest here, but just a few quick examples from this year’s USM team: JB Middleton is an SEC weekend caliber starter (Yazoo City), Colby Allen (long reliever from Starkville Academy), Carson Paetow (Vancleave), and Nick Monistere (Northwest Rankin). I just don’t buy the narrative that Mississippi players aren’t good. If you’re saying we don’t produce a lot of top 3 round guys out of high school, well sure. But those guys don’t come to campus anyway.

That's an interesting period to select.
  • The previous season (2017), we beat them twice in a regional in Hattiesburg.
  • In 2018, they swept us in Hattiesburg to start the season, and we fired our coach. So that started your period 0-3. 6-3 since.
  • In that timeframe (2018-2025), we've been to Omaha three times (including the year they beat us and we fired our coach) and won a national title. They've been to two super regionals (both lost at home).

Misleading and meaningless. It includes 0-3 in the Cannizzaro sexting from the dugout scandal and several midweek games, which are virtual exhibitions.

Ben Franklin once said, “He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.”
I agree with him, as I find this true more most times than not.

Yeah talk about a selective sample. And 3 games of 2018 where our coach was borderline spanking his cock in the dugout

I was trying to go back as far as Ostrander was hired at Southern Miss.

Considering the arguments, makes sense right? But I guess even when it does, there will always be excuses.
