Honestly, I could have lived with a missed 46 yard FG.
No. But we are sure he’s the head coach and is responsible for it no matter who called it.And we’re sure Lebby called a pass on that play?
I’m not questioning the call. I think it was a dumb decision. But I’m just trying to look at it objectively now that the anger has kind of worn off. Ferrie has been a good kicker for us and has a strong leg; but he did miss a 41-yard field goal earlier in the game, so I understand wanting to get closer. However, it has to be a very, very safe throw that can’t possibly be intercepted. If the throw isn’t wide open; throw it away and then run the ball on third down to center it up and kick the field goal. Shapen has to take a large part of the blame for throwing it into traffic. A turnover absolutely cannot happen in that situation, and it’s inexcusable that it did.Being "honest", you are the only person I have heard even question the call. 100% of everybody else agrees, you run it once up the middle, spike it and kick the FG, and if you make it great, if you miss it's still what you should have done. You don't have to be happy he missed but it's better than being mystified by the dumb azz thing you did do. Summarizing Matt Wyatt's words he said in his 30 years of being around football it was the the most questionable call he had ever seen. Then after coming back from the commercial break after that happened, he said he had been staring at the 30 yd line for 5 minutes trying to figure out why they did that. It was 100% the opposite of what they should have done, end of story.......
It was a very safe throw except for the NG drifting over. That's called getting out coached and outplayed when it matters.it has to be a very, very safe throw that can’t possibly be intercepted.
What I’m suggesting is that it likely was a QB call or read rather than from a coach. That’s how I interpreted Shapen’s comments after the game.No. But we are sure he’s the head coach and is responsible for it no matter who called it.
Understand. Didn’t see his comment. Even that is on the leadership. What I’m suggesting is that it likely was a QB call or read rather than from a coach. That’s how I interpreted Shapen’s comments after the game.
That’s fine except for the wasted time out. We still should have had one, then you can do whatever you want.I’m not questioning the call. I think it was a dumb decision. It was a very safe throw, except for the “throwing it directly to the 6-6 370 lb guy standing nowhere close to anybody” part.It was a very safe throw except for the NG drifting over. That's called getting out coached and outplayed when it matters.
How bad is it to call a time out and still come up with a predictable play that the opposition guesses correctly and wins it with an athletic play from the fattest guy on the field... running to the spot you chose to throw it to in the timeout, where your WR didn't run to but your QB still threw to.It was a very safe throw, except for the “throwing it directly to the 6-6 370 lb guy standing nowhere close to anybody” part.
Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?
I mean. It’s just the correct call. If you miss the field goal, yeah, suck. But I would not have questioned any of it.If we had run the ball up the middle for no gain and Ferrie came out to attempt a 47 yard FG and missed, how many of y’all would be screaming about how you shouldn’t settle for long field goals and we should’ve tried to get closer? Especially since he had missed a 41-yard FG earlier in the game. I know hindsight is 20/20, but if we settled for a long field goal and missed it, I think people would be upset for Lebby not trying to get closer to give Ferrie an easier kick.
You were screaming for them to kick the field goal on 2nd down with 29 seconds left? That would have pretty weird.I was screaming at the TV "kick the FG now". And Lebby didn't. So that's your answer.
Absolutely, yes I was. I obviously have watched more state games than you.You were screaming for them to kick the field goal on 2nd down with 29 seconds left? That would have pretty weird.
I wonder if there was a reason Lebby didn’t trust Ferrie this week. He went for it on 4th and 2 from the 31 early in the game when that was in kicking range. Then Ferrie “missed” that 41-yarder.
I’m not sure Lebby made an unquestionably bad call. Folks are acting like it was already a chip shot field goal, and it wasn’t. It was makeable but not automatic.
You have to be able to trust your QB to make a good decision there. He didn’t.
I'm being honest. The difference here is that you have a shot to win in your scenario. When you have an OL that struggles protecting the QB, and a QB that gets rattled easily, the worst thing you can do there is throw the ball.If we had run the ball up the middle for no gain and Ferrie came out to attempt a 47 yard FG and missed, how many of y’all would be screaming about how you shouldn’t settle for long field goals and we should’ve tried to get closer? The same people b1tching about throwing it would have b1tched about running it.If we had run the ball up the middle for no gain and Ferrie came out to attempt a 47 yard FG and missed, how many of y’all would be screaming about how you shouldn’t settle for long field goals and we should’ve tried to get closer? We didn't really throw it in a crowded area. I don't know what happened. Either shapen messed up or a route screwed up.We were gashing them all night in the running game. If he ran for no gain it would be acceptable because of that fact. If he rolls Shapen out with a chance to throw to the sideline and not in the middle of the field where a bunch of bad sh*t can happen no one says anything either. You just can’t throw the ball in an area of the field where half the defense is just sitting all to just try and gain 5 yards for a little bit closer field goal. It’s not worth the risk.

Shapen commented that the receiver was to "sit" but he kept going. It would have been an incomplete pass and no harm no foul but the NG drifted over and knew the play. My guess is we said something about the "logo" during the timeout and a UF coach saw that. There is no way the NG floats over to the exact spot like that unless UF knows the play before hand.We didn't really throw it in a crowded area. I don't know what happened. You can skip to the 15:53 mark here. Looks like he was expecting an out route under neath the corner route.

Um its called a zone blitz. The linebacker blitz and the nose guard jumped into his zone.Shapen commented that the receiver was to "sit" but he kept going. you could call it that but he's litearlly going backwards to the place the ball is passed, not much of a blitzUm its called a zone blitz. The linebacker blitz and the nose guard jumped into his zone.
The guy who is dropping backwards is dropping into a zone. He is going to a zone that would normally be covered by a linebacker. The linebacker is the one blitzing.you could call it that but he's litearlly going backwards to the place the ball is passed, not much of a blitz
