Can't think of anytime a head coach had publicly trashed a former assistant. He could give a coach-speaky answer, though, that reading between the lines you'd know he realized he needed to do something different this time around.Yeah, he seems like he's been waiting on that question.
Started cringing when he started the speech trying to defend Satterfield.
He is pretty limited to a coachspeak answer though, as you said.
But Beamer brought up the assistants by name. The question in no way even hinted at personal digs just wanting to know if Shane is actually thinking. It’s kinda surprising that it was even asked. Can't think of anytime a head coach had publicly trashed a former assistant. A point of view I read elsewhere, but it caught my interest.
Shane came across as defending all 3 hires as good hires. Hopefully coachspeak, but what if he actually thinks they were all good hires?
What does that say about his next hire, and learning from any mistakes?
Yeah, puzzling. Said they were good hires but not consistent enough results.
The coaching community is a small fraternity so naturally many friendships and alliances will form.
I don't expect SB to come out and talk trash about any of his former assistants to the public, that would make for some very bad optics.
Again, the mentioning of the assistants was all Beamer's doing. There was no need to even go into them. He even said "I push back a little bit on this, and you didn't say this but I know its a narrative out there..."The coaching community is a small fraternity so naturally many friendships and alliances will form.

Josh Pate had a segment earlier this year where he said Dabo had an answer and he went looking for a question. That is exactly what happened here. I believe he fully believes the things he's saying. He's starting to sound like dabo with these rants.... I sincerely hope Shane doesn't believe all of what he said in that answer. Sadly, I think he does. This pretty much assures another terrible OC hire, and another [head]coaching search next year around this time.
I draw no conclusion from this.FOOD FOR THOUGHT. I'm just going to pivot and say the following: 3 SEC coaches have been fired in mid-season. They are Sam Pittman of Arkansas, Billy Napier of Florida and Brian Kelly of LSU. We have played against those coaches a total of 4 times since 2022. Two of those times were at Williams-Brice Stadium. Our combined record against them is 0-4. Those are facts. I will not editorialize making subjective comments. People can draw their own conclusions.
(NOTE: Not counting Hugh Freeze, fired by Auburn after 2+ seasons, since we have not gone up against Freeze in the past 2+ seasons).

On this note; how many times now have we heard this guy talk about a narrative? He also claims they don't pay attention to outside noise. Just find an OC who doesn't suck. Thanks.
Quite possible Furrey/Shawn are better than Satt or Schuler (sp). We'll find out in a few days.
Not sure why anyone would think he's going to throw anyone under the bus that didn't blatantly try to screw him over. They underperformed.. no one here would realistically answer in any other way.

No one asked him to throw anyone under the bus, the question didn't require an answer to throw anyone under the bus, no one needs him to throw them under the bus. He, of his own volition brought them up (3rd time this has been stated). Not sure why anyone would think he's going to throw anyone under the bus that didn't blatantly try to screw him over. Beamer may very well be willing to through someone under the bus though, that didn't screw him over. I don't recall the details but he had some under the bus type comments when that Coley dude left for a UGA job.
And yes, people here would realistically answer another way. It's been demonstrated.
We are not going to lose to Coastal. They have the 112th ranked defense and the 109th ranked offense in the nation. There are 134 FBS teams in the nation. They are poor. And that is flattering them. If we lose to Coastal, then Beamer needs to be fired 5 seconds after shaking the Coastal Coaches hand congratulating him. What support Shane has left may fall if he loses the next three. If this happens I dont see how he can keep his job. I’m sure Donati has a short list on his desk.
This 100%OC is not the root of the problem, lack of talent is. Going a step further, development of talent is the real problem. Recruiting and portal acquisitions have been pretty good, the problem seems to start when the players get to Columbia. Sellers is no better, possibly worse, than when he arrived. The OL, which includes a number of highly rated recruits, looks bewildered playing college football. The RBs and WRs are mediocre.
The defense looks pretty well coached but they don't really have any elite players. Stewart is good but he isn't a game changer that opposing teams have to scheme around.
Beamer can't say any of this.

On paper they are probably better than 2015 Citadel. South Carolina in no way should lose to Coastal but same could have been said for that Citadel team regardless of how bad that 2015 Gamecock team was. And how many times has that been the case? I guess I wouldn’t expect him to admit publicly they were bad. He was locked and loaded though.
He can't make a new OC hire without the involvement of the AD. I hope Donati is the kind of person who will expect SB to make a strong case for any new hires and that in doing so he has learned from his mistakes.A point of view I read elsewhere, but it caught my interest.

He doesn't have to trash them nor does he have to say they were good hires. He could just say he is going to re-evaluate everything at the end of the year. I think he did hint at that when asked what he would look for in a new OC.The coaching community is a small fraternity so naturally many friendships and alliances will form.
