Great post John, honest post. I get on here and poke at the coach a little bit but forget he is filling big shoes with a group of freshman and sophomore kids. Secondary lacks size and are gonna have to just make up for that by getting more solid , positionally better. They have time to work , improve in the conference leading to east Surry . Bears are gonna be good, by seasons end better than tonight, a lot better. They will take their medicine at reidsville and at east this year, but as strong a program as MA is you have to rebuild sometime. I see this team being a strong contender in the west next year and the coming years. This group their junior and senior year are gonna be NASTY!!! The 8th grade group is gonna be special. I don’t like coach Adkins as a offensive coordinator but I do like him as a head coach. I like the discipline he brings and I also like what he’s putting in place from the weight room side. He is getting the bears ready to transition from an athletic team to a very physical team along with athleticism, there will always be athletes at ma , they have never been a smc physical type team. I think you will see that next year. I think you will see the veer a little as well, if you watch the bears jv team you will see it already. Slash your hounds came to play tonight, you run wild in conference if you play like you played tonight , it’s what a bears hounds game should be . Good luck on the rest of the season

People don't see the work Adkins puts into a program from behind the scenes. Trust me if Mount Airy would have went with the alternative they would really be crying. That really good team he had at East Wilkes was as physical as they come. They went toe to toe with 2 of the most physical teams in the state in back to back weeks only losing to Mitchell by a field goal that year. He's going to be good at Mount Airy. People just have to give him time. It took 4 years to get East Wilkes really good. He'll be good in his first 3 years at Mount Airy, but once that 4th year gets here they will be a different animal. People need to realize it takes 3-4 years to get the machine well oiled with a coaching transition.

MT AIRY AIN’T EAST WILKES

MT Airy comes with high expectations

Compensation is very good

MT AIRY has the nicest facilities, tradition, and huge fan base in surrounding area

You have talent at MA every year!!

Coach holder has set the bar at a level to where playing a Mitchell or a western regional championship once in a life time is not what you are striving for. WE WANT TO BE IN THE HUNT EVERY YEAR. Not just every once in awhile.

The coaching job at MA IS PRESTIGIOUS, if you think the applicant list wasn’t long you are sadly mistaken, there were heavy hitters from VA on that list that in my opinion were a better fit with several state championships under their belt

Next year will tell the tell of this coaching stint. As this team this year is young, should be nasty next year and the talent that is downstream my grandma could win the west with, just saying.

This coach picked the right time to leave east Wilkes as the drop off was known and that comment about coach wilmoth is not a fair one. If the truth is known wilmoth might have even been a better pick for ma than Adkins as the state championship coaching staff would have remained in place. Claybo, Martin and a couple more PROVEN winners would remain.

I do agree Bareman , but we are so use to having that explosive tail back at Ma that we forget that a decent tailback and a pretty good full back would work , those breakout runs are nice , but it starts on the line and 5 yards at a time is good enuff. I will bet you a moon pie, a rc cola and some peanuts that next year we play deep in the 1a west :)

Coaching is Coaching whether it is at East Wilkes or Mt.Airy. The little league and Middle School football leagues do extremely well in the East Wilkes district. Coaches are expected to win when they come to EW as the kids that come there from the feeder programs are used to winning. A lot of times its doesn't pan out that way. Maybe just Maybe Mt.Airy isnt as good as you all think they are. I mean Starmount beat you...Starmount barely beat Forbush...who for the record is really not that good. Maybe its not the coach that is the problem. Im sure Mt.Airy has plenty of talent...but you guys are so spoiled. Realtalk, Face it. You're not East Surry this year. You're defense isnt good enough to hold decently good teams to zero points like East Surry is doing. Spoiled Brats...be happy you scored 50 points and won..and stop belittling others programs or the lack there of in the meantime. Everybody cant be as fortunate as Mt.Airy. Thats why folks love to see you lose.

And in a down year still beat East Wilkes, still a good thing the wheels came off the bus on the best team east ever had, cause if they came to the granite city that year they would have got smacked!!!!! Even in a down year the bears will finish 8-3. Even in a down year the bears will hold double digit lead in series over all area teams, even in a down year the bears will remain one of the winningest programs in the state thru all classifications, even in a down year the young bears still finish with a better record than east Wilkes best years. The question is what about the next few years. I hear it’s ugly in Rhonda , I hear it is REAL UGLY. But that’s the difference in a down year In Rhonda vs a down year in MT AIRY. The difference is 0-5 and 4-1. Go back to sleep print , go mow your yard, drink your instant tea, pull the straps back on your overalls, cause not just yesterday, not just last week but forever , the dawg will OWN the print on the forums and not in your grandkids lifetime will east Wilkes program , tradition, fan base , facilities or most importantly winning percentage come close to what the history of the bears reads

Wilmouth was not the one most Bear fans was pulling for to replace Holder but we will take Atkins and adapt to his system. The program will still be a winner

Gdawg...all this stuff is well and good. But your fans are silver spooned cry baby brats...I could care less if Mt.Airy wins 10 championships in 10 years...your fambase will never be one that is considered remotely down to earth. At the end of the day..your program is known to choke down the stretch. It has great prestige..but really minimal hardware to show for it.. EW will never in a million years be in that stratoshphere..due to demographics mainly..so beat ya chest..but please stop crying..bout your coach just becuase you're not beating teams by 60 like you crybaby fans want your team to. You have East Surry and Reidsville on your schedule to get embarrased by this year...so at least your program has two more scheduled games that your arm chair qb's can whine about...Good day...Lol and as far as facilities..fanbase..and all the dumbazz bs you spouting off..it matters none to me...i have a job..that pays my bills adequately..as do most EW fans..so as long as we're able to pay for a seat in any stadium..all that jibberish you're rattling off matters to no one..but you..LOL.

Mount Airy was good when he got here. Stupid post. If it takes him 4 years he will be gone. MA is not ew. The talent is their. East Wilkes won what while he was their? Nothing. MA is a team with tradition nothing against ew but no comparison. MA is just different.

I never said it was going to take him 4 years to win. He's going to win. It will take him 3-4 years to get his system established. When he does that there will be more than winning. It's change. People don't like change. But thats part of life.

No one is comparing Mt.Airy and Ew...Mt.Airy has had great coaching and good consistent talent..it's a blessing. It's just the obnoxious pompus fanbase that EVERYBODY HATES. EW could only hope to one day acheive Mt.Airy's success...but im sure they would be waaaaay less smug about it...

Who’s everybody? The fact is this — the numbers don’t lie , my grandma could coach what Adkins has coming and the youth he already has . He let an offensive, (choking while laughing ) coordinator that couldn’t coach little league ruin a team that was loaded last year. Got his running back hurt with a lead late in the game and his star player get hurt when they both should have been on the pine resting. Missed out with a team that should have been playing in the ship. You judge a coach on how he finishes, we will see how it works out for him. I for one give him a honest chance , but if he can’t win with the youth that’s there and what’s coming from downstream he won’t win anywhere. I’m hoping that the weight room he just purchased is a sign of physicality to come next year. Like I said IM HOPING!!! As for you print PIPE DOWN, I continue to OWN YOU THIS YEAR JUST AS I HAVE IN PAST YEARS!!! It’s called winning , something that just don’t happen much in Wilkes county , UNLESS YOU TRANSFER TO ELKIN —LMAO!!!

I have seen the Bears play in 3 State Championship games winning 1 and losing in OT to a real good WRH team that many say Omar Care still hasn't crossed the goal line for the 2 point conversion. Not even big bad esurry can say that. Yes.we r.very spoiled to winning. I was a Bear on the grid iron ik what it means to wear the MA on the helmet. If you haven't done that then u woulddnt understand the passion and pride in the Granite City.

Lol..Elkin is Is Wilkes...they dont associate themselves with your other Surry counterparts...unless its beating a North Surry team soundly that your beloved Bears struggled mightily with and had 40 pts scored on em..LOL..I can agree Wilkes super umder acheives..there is more athletes at Wilkes Central than in all of Surry County..but Yeah Wilkes Football is terrible consistently..no argument there..but i do enjoy you brats cryin and askin for the coaches head..after only 1.25 years

I have to be careful about what I say because of my position, but I'm used to that. I've been on this site for 18 years, first with Garner, then with Princeton/Southern Wayne/Rosewood/North Duplin, and then I came across the state to the Surry County teams. I wrote a couple of years ago about how I was looking forward to seeing how Coach Holder and Coach Diamont did things; I'd heard of them in the East but never seen them in action.

Coach Adkins and Coach Taylor both know what they're doing. From my feel on the game last night, I thought both of them had a few mis-steps, but nothing I felt was outrageously bad, and there's no guarantee something else would have worked. On the MA side, I agreed with going for the touchdown on fourth down from the 2. Sure, Tumbarello makes the field goal and puts MA up 39-38, but there was no reason to believe at that point NS wasn't going to score again. This was a game where you needed touchdowns. MA just didn't execute on that series. As for the rollout pass that got picked, the NS kid made a great play. I'd have just called student body left and let Smith run it in, but I'm old-school anyway. I'd be running the Pro-I and all of you'd want my head for running "outdated" stuff. (Although that 1940s straight-T seems to work at Tarboro.) That's why I write about it and don't coach...LOL.

One of the first conversations I had with Adkins, he said that MA fans have high expectations and that they should have high expectations. I agree with him on that. I was actually in Tarboro in 1993, and later on I was in Garner, then Princeton and North Duplin, and one thing they all had in common was that the community was strongly behind the program and supported it. Princeton and ND are both so small that sometimes they just don't have the talent, but they're always as good as they can be.
