I haven't been this apathetic about all of MSU's athletics....ever. Football, basketball, baseball all meh.

I'm hoping 2022 football can buoy my spirits

There were some overlapping Polk 2 and Croom years that were pretty brutal, too.

2005-2006 is my vote for the worst year in recent memory. Football went 3-8, basketball went 15-15, baseball fell from No. 1 in the polls in March to not even qualifying for Hoover, only made the NCAAT by pure luck. And then didn’t really do anything in the Regional.

At least football was not as bad this year as some want to make it. There were some high points that were an absolute delight. I will remember being there in person for the comeback at Auburn for a long long time.

We beat NC State, A&M, Kentucky and Auburn. All were pretty good.
Baseball sucks, but we won the national championship last year
I'm very excited about the new basketball coach.

I have been that way for a while. Miss State winning or losing does not put food on the table and no sense is driving your self crazy over it. I am way happier now just enjoying watching Miss Sports. Yes I enjoy it more when they are good and win but I don't stress when they are not.

2004 - 2008 saw the heady days of...

Sylvester Croom and Polk II.

If you lived through that you can survive a poor showing in a bowl game and a hangover from a CWS title.

Volleyball is pretty solid and softball is better than advertised.

I was excited when we scored a late touchdown in 2005 to make the final score against Georgia 23-10. Only losing to a top 10 Georgia team by 13 points was cause for celebration. Btw, we scored 10 or fewer points in seven of our 11 games that season. You made it through that, you can make it through a seven win season and a bowl appearance.

I feel like 2001-2002 was a pretty rough stretch comparatively. You made it through that alive, apparently.

2000-2001 Men's Basketball: 18-13 Overall & 7-9 Conference
2001 Football: 3-8 Overall & 2-6 Conference
2002 Baseball: 34-24 Overall & 14-15 Conference

Things seem bad right now, but I'm not sure this is worse than then, tbh.

Don’t know what’s wrong with y’all. I’m excited for football, we’re going to be pretty good. Basketball just got a jolt. Baseball just won a natty and is good hands regardless of what happens this year.

Just accept NIL and the portal. Both were a long time coming. Does the NCAA need to get a handle on the recruiting part? Sure. But the **** was happening already.

I can understand general football apathy, but if they’d expand the football playoff, fan engagement would explode.

2012-13 wasn't a great year either. Football finished losing 5 of 6, basketball was year one under both Ray and Vic, and baseball obviously had a great run in June but the regular season had its ups and downs. 2013-14: football ended well winning 3 straight but went 7-6, men's basketball was mediocre to say the least, women's basketball made a great run in WNIT, baseball was a letdown and choked in the Lafayette regional championship (which may have been a good thing because ole miss would've stomped us in the super regional)

Am I happy about losing in baseball? 17 no but I was in Omaha when we won the National Championship less than 10 months ago. I can live off that high for a long time. If you are apathetic about baseball that's on you.

1985/86 was survivable for me. Consider...

1985 Football: 5-6 (0-6 SEC)

1985-6 MBK: 8-22 (3-15 SEC)

1985-6 BB: 34-21 (12-15 SEC)

I can't get too emotionally invested about MSU sports, as there is very little ROI --- other than love the campus and great college memories.

That's the most sunshine I've seen pumped in one post since leaving Gene's Page decades ago.

Football- "We're going to be pretty good" How so? We were 7-6 last year in football w/ a huge come from behind win over mighty LA Tech, a **** show loss to Memphis, a win in an epic collapse by Auburn, a 3 point win over 6-7 LSU, the 2nd loss in a row to the Bears in a rivalry that everybody except our head coach cares about, multiple players leaving for the portal. I hope they come through but I don't see it getting better.

Basketball- we "got a jolt" when Howland came. We "got a jolt" when Leach was hired. We "got a jolt" when Nikki McCray Penson as hired. We "got a jolt" when Morehead was hired.

Baseball- "just won a Natty" That was last year, that team scattered and left a couple days after winning it which either left us w/ no talent (inexcusable) or our coaches forgot how to do what they're paid for, or both...... When Bob Tyler was here he had a saying he used on signs, in speeches, etc. "If you're bragging about what you did yesterday, you haven't done much today." I'm grateful for last year and what THAT team did, but they're gone and today is today, not last year in Omaha
