Asked if he believes his name would come up as jobs open as the postseason approaches, he replied: "I don't even consider that. I'm happy here. To be honest with you, I don't know where I would leave to go to. This is the Southeastern Conference. I don't have any experience in the NFL and I coached in the SEC, so I don't really know if there's many places for me to go to."

May be totally German, but have not seen it discussed. Regardless, sounds good to me.

...when they asked Mullen if he wanted the MSU job and he said yes. This, before he was offered the job.

Mullen is an expert in PR from what we have seen so far, and that answer is perfect for recruits.

I sincerely believe that Mullen is happy at State and loves it here, but when Georgia, Penn State, Meechagen, or one of those top-tier jobs comes open, it will be hard as hell for him to turn it down.

He aint leaving for Minnesota, Colorado, or some **** like that- but we will have to face one of the big boys eventually

at one of those elite schools. Schiano was one of the hottest names in college football, maybe even hotter than Mullen will ever be at State, and he's stuck it out at Rutgers. I just don't think Michigan, Penn State, Georgia, etc, will try to hire a 7-8 win coach from Miss State.

LSU hired a 7-8 win coach from Ok State and he is now their all-time winningest coach
Auburn hired a 3 win coach from Iowa State
Texas hired an 8-9 win guy from North Carolina
USC hired a guy that hasn't won anything in his career
Tennessee hired a guy with one bowl game appearance

Winning 8 games at State is equal to winning 10 at Georgia...not to mention Georgia's AD worked with Mullen at Fla...Those NC's on his resume as an OC weigh heavy as well. If he keeps us winning 7-8-9 a year in the toughest half of the conference in the best conference in the nation- he is going to be wanted.

some of those related to specifically to the situation involved at that particular program. I think Mullen needs to finish better than 7-5 this year and follow it with another 8 win season to get the attention. I'd really like him to have a huge season (like actually having a shot at getting to the SECCG) before he gets hired away.

look for. They see 8 wins at MSU, and they think, well, shoot, he can win the NC here.

Schiano was a hot name because ESPN pimped him. Just remember, they also lambasted Alabama for hiring Croom and praised us for hiring Croom.

I'm sure that if a school really wanted Schiano, they would go after him. I don't know why no one has- perhaps he is happy there, perhaps he wants too much money, I don't know.

It seems like since USC hired Pete Carroll and Alabama hired Nick Saban away from the NFL, it seems like that's kind of a trend among some of the more prestigious schools- hiring a former NFL head coach- see Arkansas with Bobby Petrino and Mike Sherman from Texas A&M. But once those schools have kicked Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden's tires, then they seem to go after the Dan Mullen's.

We are probably ok this year, unless GA comes calling. Of course there is the black bears' job opening up (NOT).....

Look at Dan Hawkins. Maybe he stays at Boise State and he is a cult hero. Instead, it's Chris Petersen, who perhaps was the brains behind their success all along. Instead, Hawkins goes to Colorado and he is looking for a job.

I think that's the exception rather than the rule, though. Look at Tommy Tuberville- a couple of 7-8 win seasons at Ole Miss, and he hops in his pine box and rides off to Auburn and leads them to an undefeated season. Saban started out at a MAC school, has a stint as a NFL DC, goes to Michigan State and has some pretty good success there, and then goes to LSU and takes off. And then Urban Meyer starts out at Bowling Green, then goes to Utah and leads them to an undefeated season, and then ends up having a lot of success at Florida.

I think most coaches aspire to move up, but I think they also fear ending up like Hawkins.

I have to wonder how much he would want to compete against Urban- Florida and Georgia are pretty big rivals. He may not care.

I think somewhere like UT, ironically Auburn, or LSU would be more likely than Georgia. Or just stay at MSU and become a cult hero.

He seems to be pushing the "be the first here at MSU" angle. Like the first Heisman winner will have something named after them. He wins a NC and the stadium will probably have his name on it somewhere. When Bobby Bowden went to FSU, it wasn't that great of a job but now it is one of the upper tier jobs. We have a lot going for us that people take for granted. Mullen has said he looked at our school and drew a circle around 5 hour travel time. Inside that circle is a lot of NFL type talent that a lot of schools don't have the chance to get. We have to compete with greatfootball teamslike LSU and Bama but I doubt Mullen looks at challenges and shys away from them.

yall can write Georgia off ... not sure, but I think Mark Richt has the highest winning percentage of their past coaching ... at any rate, they still love Richt here in Ga.
