...that Osborne and Riley have been having regular phone conversations since the Iowa game. Seems like some sound advice came just in time. If we continue this kind of game planning next year the sky is the limit!

I thought Tom Osborne was another cancer that needed irradicated from the program???

Also, do we actually have talent now or not???

Man, I just can't keep up anymore.

if so, did not see alot of Osborne era plays in the repertoire Saturday night.
We aren't going to the I with the option anytime soon. But we did use the full back well, incorporated the zone "read option" a lot more than we have all season, and it looked to me like we did more pulling than we have in the past. Hey, any contact between TO and Riley is good contact in my book.

we will NEVER see the Husker type offense of the 90s again and for good reason. The only way we could run that type offense again and win MNC or Conference Champ games is if we pulled in 5 star dual threat QBs, 5 stars RBs and high level 4 star and 5 star oline along with a juggernauts type defenses that shut everything down that breaths. Defenses these days on top tier teams are to fast, tackle good and they'd simply stacj the box and shut us down. If we are to compete for championship games again, we have to have balanced offenses that can both run and pass...do NOT take this wrong, we can be successful with 70/30 run/pass type offenses and win but we have to have a good pass game.

Teams who are run heavy or pass heavy may win some or a lot of games but they always lose to the good teams. So come on OLD SCHOOL Husker fans, if we are compete with the big dogs, we need the top level Olineman, the big and fast backs and yes we need the S. Morgan's and 4 star or higher ranked WR and TEs and smart pro style QBs, if we are to reach the top again. Its just the way now day teams are.

2/10, since you got a couple nibbles. It's a shame though, when they actually did meet, Dr. Tom wasn't too happy it became public news.

I mean, really, Osborne and Riley, meeting at Misty's, who would've thought someone would recognize either, at a location that few people go to.

Why by phone? Doesn't TO still have an office in the stadium? Seems to me those kinds of discussions would require a whiteboard. I can somewhat believe the rumor. The offense Saturday certainly did have an "Osborne feel", more so than at any time since he left. What really drove it home for me was the last first down made on the reverse. The way Tommy faked to the back and then gave it to Carter on the sly was like, wow, looked like the 90s.

I believe we ran that same play to Carter against Rutgers when it went for a TD. Not sure if TO drew that one up or should we give credit to Rlies and Langs?

as for our 2016 Husker team, the sky is the limit. Our Oline will be young and will need to jell, luckily for them we have a monster group of WRs, a very good TE (That's starting to remind me of Kellen Winslow Jr, yes dude could be that good with his hands, blocking and trucking ability) and a 3 year starter in Armstrong (if he continues to grow and play like he did against UCLA, he could be a first team all Big 10 type QB). Our RBs should be good as well with the emergence of Oz and hopefully Wilborn and Newby is fast, has the hands and could be pretty dam good next year.

Our defense should continue to get better, if Valentine and Williams come back and the Davis twins getting into the mix our Dline should be top tier, our LBs will all be back minus Webber and will be a year better under our LB coach and our one possible weakness on defense is a very YOUNG but talented group of DBs, but I think this group will be night and day better then this years group. Ad Lee and Anderson into the mix, another year under the belt for Kalu, Jones, A. Williams and Gerry and HOPEFULLY we ad Lamar Jackson in this group (anyone think this kid could play as a true freshman or would redshirting be a good idea for him).

And our kickers should be 1st and or 2nd team Big 10 type players and then we get Person-El back at punt returner and I bet dude comes back hitting on all 12 cylinders.

Next year we could be a great team and I believe Armstrong is the guy who makes or breaks the season (if he's not doing well they better play O'Brien and prepare dude for the future), along with how well our Oline play is, they should be a young talented group but how quickly will they jell?

It is common knowledge that TO sent out a tweet, immediately before that play was called, suggesting that exact play. Coincidence that it was called by Langs? I don't think so.

Yep, same 22 package off-set that we had against Rutgers when Cethan housed it. Gonna need a football specialist like @JHball to confirm it though, hang tight...

TO wasn't always option, option, option. 1973-80, he was I formation, with passing style QB's, and fairly similar to pro style offenses of that era. He threw the ball a lot more in those years. Watching the UCLA game seemed to me to be almost a throw back to TO's early years at Nebraska, pre-option.

Obviously the passing formations today are more varied and sophisticated than in Osborne's early years, and Nebraska probably didn't run too much 1 back sets back then IIRC, but I'd be perfectly happy with a roughly 3 to 1 run/pass ratio like what we saw this weekend, assuming Nebraska can establish the run against good rushing defense teams, which the stats, Stanford and USC showed UCLA was not.

Check out the run/pass ratios from this weekend, and a historic game for TO.

Nebraska vs UCLA 2015
Rushing 62 for 326 yards
Passing, 12-19-0, 174 yards

Nebraska vs Oklahoma 1978
Rushing 62 250 yards
Passing, 8-20-1 int, for 111 yards

Seems like Wisconsin or Minnesota ran that play on us, after the game Riley made a comment on how he liked it and might give it a try.

I don't think you are going to see much of Osborne publicly until the Chancellor is gone. It was made abundantly clear at the end that he didn't want Tom around. Once Harvey is done strutting around campus it would be good for Eichorst and Riley to start embracing Osborne openly. I'm glad to see his influence in this game and hope it continues next year.

I can only think of Michigan State running a TE reverse on us, 3rd down late in the game that we stopped to get the rock back.

Osborne doesn't have an office in the stadium. As a matter of fact, I had my family there the day he was moving out. He was trying to drag a couple carts up the two or three stairs right inside the north stadium doors and I helped him, but he was on the phone wasn't otherwise very talkative that day.

You don't like the rumors that are out there. Fine...don't believe it. It's no skin off my teeth. I posted the rumor I heard and then posted my opinion why you won't see Osborne publicly anytime soon. Anytime someone posts something you don't like, you start with the troll stuff. I hope it's true because we need TO connected to this program.

I couldn't care less about what you heard, and said as much in the my first reply. This is a troll thread, you know it, I know it, I'm sure many others know it and it's bullcrap that it's allowed. If they want troll threads on here, it's going to be a long freaking off-season.

This thread had one agenda, and it's quite obvious with the previous post I quoted of yours.

It felt like Osborne's offense simply because we were running 4 plays out of 5 and dominating. Other than that, I'm not sure this rumor has legs. Never know, but I think Riley basically took his lead from this year's USC/UCLA game.

If you keep calling it a troll long enough, you may get it and me booted. The reality is that ONLY reason you say this is a troll is because you and others have shown a disdain for Osborne. Why would people talking about Milt or McBride talking to the staff be welcomed but people talking about Osborne speaking to Riley not be welcomed? The answer is obvious. I stand by what I heard.

I don't want you booted, I enjoy your knowledge when you're not trolling. The board is better off with you, not without. I have zero disdain towards Osborne, don't put words in my mouth. He isn't the saint many people say he is, and as proven over 11 going on 12 years, I'll call a spade a spade, when the topic fits, regardless if it's pro or anti Osborne. And that's exactly what I've done when he's mentioned/discussed and it's something that catches my interest.

Milt and Charlie are well known, with proven and hard facts to support the discussion. Nobody is talking about Osborne meeting with Riley post Io_a game, except you, a preacher in Tulsa, in a troll thread.

I think a lot of the offense resembles an offense you would see in the NFL except for the read option. Remember TO thought that Urban Meyers was brilliant developing it. Really nothing resembled TO plays other than the QB gave the ball to another football player who ran with it.
