Like the economic boost for small business and the increase in tax revenues for the state.
I have heard there have been more than a few negative emails sent to him yesterday.

...I am not going to make a political crack, though when citizens from the state that is #50 in everything become political activists over beer, it's a treasure trove of goodies for a comedian.


I will say I would not even know the new governor of Mississippi's name unless I saw it here 5 times a day.

Forget which is which. MS measures it the way almost everybody else doesn't. Surprise. Anyway 8% here is like 10-11% elsewhere. Almost every good beer should be available here*.

*If MS ABC cooperates. All alcohol in MS comes through the state's own cartel, ABC. Regardless of what's legal you can only get what they decide to buy. Which is one reason Flor De Canna rum is rare here and I can't find Hossong's(sp) tequila anywhere.

I'm not positive on this, but: only liquor is distributed through ABC. Beer is regulated by the county and distributed through private companies.

I am not even sure if the Governor has the bill on his desk yet. He gets 5 days to decide once he has it.

I don't drink any thing with Alcohol and don't care if someone else does so I really don't have a dog in the fight but one thing I can't figure outis why this has always been a big deal in Miss. Hell if you can get drunk on six beers why not be able to get drunk on two? Drunk is drunk no matter how many beers you drink and I don't think higher Alcohol content is going to slow down the sell of beer. Just sign the damn thing and get on with other things.

and they have the Yuengling brewery within 3 miles of their home......

depressing to say the least have to give that news to a family of beer connoisseurs....i was looking forward to it as well....

but redbridge is gluten free and available at most grocery stores that have at least a little variety.

I don't gamble but as a Mississippi resident I benefit from Casinos since they contribute to the tax base. Just like the increased tax revenue from the new beer sales will add to the tax base. Now, of course how our politicians use the extra taxes is another discussion.

how many folks are driving to LA or TN right this secondto buy lotto tickets to have a shot at a half billion??? Just b/c we would have the lotto (just like casinos) does not mean you would be FORCED to play. I wish more folks in the Bible Belt of our state were like you andwould understand this...

I would like to voice my support for Senate Bill 2878. There is no good reason that 90% of the world's most popular beers should be disallowed in Mississippi. These premium beers are like fine wine. They are works of art. They should be enjoyed here as they are in 48 other states.

Measurement currently used is 5% alcohol by weight, which is about 6.2% alcohol by volume. Anything above this is handled by liquor stores. Product in liquor stores has to be above 5% or below 0% (<1%) alcohol. This is why many moscato di astis are now in grocery stores. 5% by volume is about 4% by weight. MS throws fastest frowing segment out instead of trying to amend law. State charges 27.5% per case plus taxes and delivery charges to get it to stores & bars from state warehouse; on afore-mentioned item, they now only get basically sales tax since Jan.1, 2010.

Some comapnies do not want to sell their product to some states. Some feel they can make more money in other markets, so they send all or most production to those markets. MS does regulate what can be sold to a very small extent. We tried to introduce a moonshine with cherries in it and the state said no. A competitor did get a few cases in before these got recalled. Your favorite store may just tell you they cannot get it because they are afraid that if they do you will not come back. Then again, some stuff is just not available anymore. By the time Spectator gets theur review of something out, it is close to being gone.
