Being a "SEC Fan" shouldn't I hate the new playoff system?

If we had had this playoff system last year wouldn't the SEC have gotten short changed? LSU and Bama being in for sure but what about Arkansas?<div>

Even if they did, that's basically never again going to happen. It's hard to say for sure that a team is top 4 when they lost to the two toughest teams on their schedule.

arkansas was a top 3 team. until they played both lsu and bama and lost. and not just lost, but got blown out by both. they didn't end the regular season in the top 5, and really having lost to 2 of the teams that would have gotten in, they had no argument that they were better than lsu or bama.

as a "sec fan" you should want the conf's best to be beating other conf's best, not just beating up on the same teams they already beat the **** out of in the regular season.

Last year it would have been hard to keep Alabama out of the playoff. But any year 2 SEC teams end up ranked in the top four and say Oregon/Ohio St is 11-1 and won their conference and is ranked #5 or #6, the SEC could very well have only 1 representative. Scenario...

1. Alabama 12-0
2. Oklahoma 12-0
3. LSU 11-1 (not conf champ. lost head to head vs. Bama)
4. Boise St. 12-0
5. Oregon 11-1 (conf. champ)
6. Ohio St. 11-1 (conf. champ)

Or even drop LSU to #4 and move Boise to #3. Who are the committee's 4 playoff teams?

While 3 teams is HIGHLY unlikely so is 2 teams. I want the best 4 teams in college football in the playoff, that could very likely be 2 or even 3 SEC teams. I don't want an overrated Big 10 school, soft Pac-12 team or a Boise/TCU/Utah in the playoff just because. The best 4 teams should get in. Period.<div>

In 14 years, the SEC had 2 teams in the title game just once. In 14 years of this system, it will have 2 teams in the playoff several times in all likelihood. I cannot see any reason to feel like the SEC is getting shafted.

Why should Notre Dame's athletic director have an equal voice with the commisioners of the various conferences? One school should never be considered as equal to a whole conference.

They don't have any real say in the decisions being made. And neither does Notre Dame. This is all about what the Big 5 conferences want to do and how they want to do it.

this will create more separation between programs. It's practically impossible to recruit against Alabama and LSU as it is now. A "final 4" in football will make it harder.

The only playoff I'm for is a 16 or 32 team open tournament. No automatics for anybody. We could actually compete for a spot in that scenario. Heaven help our program if the playoff ever evolves to where the Sun Belt, CUSA and similar conference champs get automatic bids

I could see the seeding being less political if the lion's share of money is split equally over the big conferences regardless of who is in the playoffs. Kind of like the SEC splits bowl money equally amongst SEC teams even for teams that aren't in bowls.

this is an extension of the regular football season for SEC fans. Bjork and Bunky are pushing for a field of 84, or so.

that gives the conference a better chance(albeit slightly) to get at least 2 teams into the championship mix. Is it the 8 or 16 team format that most of us want? No, but it's better than what we had before.

and that's completely fair because why should lsu who already lost to bama be ahead and get another shot to knock off bama when oregon and ohio st have a similar profile and haven't yet lost to bama?those rankings are taking into account the natural bias of the voters andthe polls when lsu, oregon, and ohio st have played suchvastly different schedules, that it's impossible tolegitimately compare the 3. the other thing we know is that lsu has lost to bama, and thus under the argument that the regular season matters, should eliminate lsu from consideration if there are comparable conference champs out there.

i like to see the sec do well, but the sec is not my allegiance. msu is my allegiance. otherwise i'm a fan of sports. the only desire i have to see the sec do well is to be able to take solace in the fact that we lost a couple of games to top 25 teams, but that's hardly enough for me to throw a ***** fit about the sec runner up not getting in ahead of comparable programs with similar resumes who actually won their conference.

I'm not following. Four teams playing for a national title affects us how?? We have played the National Champion at Starkville 4 of the last 5 years (I think). We finished 4th in our division in 2010 and was ranked 15th in the nation. For us to have a shot ever at a NC, we would have to win the conference anyway. How does a four team playoff make it "harder" when we already play in the toughest division of the toughest conference?

A 32 team open tournament....screw that....go for 64 teams....football from August to May. Covers the whole school year. Yeah...I could definitely afford a 28 game season. And who cares about injuries...just up the number of schollies...158 players to a team.
