If I'm JCA against Marist, I keep the guys coming back from injury out of the game and let them heal another week. Then, if they lose and go 7-2 they can see where they are positioned in the brackets. That then dictates whether they let the guys rest another week. IHSA is NOT going to separate JCA, NAZ, and MCC into different brackets. And if LWW drops to 5A, then LWW will go south and JCA, NAZ and MCC will all be in the north. Last thing IHSA wants is an all ESCC final in DeKalb.
I think they do for SF reasons

ch02st,

Trent had a great game, especially second half when they went to a 3 man front. But to say the Dline dominated is not accurate. Had they dominated the game would have been filled with Tackles for loss and it wasn't. They did a hell of a job containing the run and forcing the pass which is a HUGE accomplishment! The quick tempo and Quick game offense Benet came with neutralized the big bodies of JCA and gave Jack time to pass, and the run game worked when needed because the pass game kept the JCA LBs and DBs on their heels rather than coming down hill. Had Benet kept the pace they played with in the second half the outcome could have been even more lopsided. Again tip of the hat to Benet on a solid game plan.

Fair enough. Looking at the game tape in detail, I would agree. JCA had 36 rushes for 166 yards. By JCA standards a lite rushing output. 5 for loss, 4 for 0, 8 for 1-3 yards, 6 for 4-6, 8 for 6 -10, and 4 for 10+. JCA could not string any consistent big rushes together, but had some success. Passing was just as in consistent. 14/31 for 173. The three tds were 61 of those yards. While they would hit some big plays here and there, Benet often did not let those plays happen in bunches so containing is a good description. When is the last time JCA threw 31 times?

Dean,

I believe SF would not kick in for Naz because of the "MC rule" winning or participating in state title game in 2 different classes.
Well with the constant tweaking by the IHSA, one of 2 things is going to happen.however it's set up when either Naz or JC beat Washington running clock then FE is back next year so both JC Naz go 6A or they will amend SF

I would welcome FE back in a second. Best way to handle, for everybody.

That's a good question. Since WB Harry Davis got hurt in week 3, JC has not run the double wing. There are elements of the double wing in what they are doing, but it's not a true double wing. I suspect they don't think Ke'von Johnson is physically capable as a 150 lb. (at the most) soph. to execute all the elements of the double wing. The problem? Their current running game has more runs up the middle (between the guard and center). The strength of Benet's defense, IMO, is their DT's and MLB. So JC was running right into the strength of the Benet defense with a reserve guard who struggled. As was pointed out above, DT #50 was consistently in the backfield.

Why not alter the approach and run more off tackle, as the traditional double wing employs? I didn't get that. When Benet shut down their run game, they went to a shotgun spread, which is clearly not their strength. That strategy made no sense to me, but of course, hindsight is 20/20. Also, as ch02st pointed out above. I didn't understand the defensive approach either. Why play soft coverage and give Benet the short throws, which is basically what Benet planned to do coming into the game. I also thought JC did not tackle well at all. Benet consistently got additional yards after contact, which is a tribute to the Benet backs. I really like the combination of Weidenbach and McEeachern at RB.

Benet was the more physical team. Benet was the more prepared team. Benet had a better game plan. JC's plan B did not work. Benet forced 4 turnovers in the 2nd half. JC continues to accumulate penalties, which caught up to them Friday night. Benet was clearly the better team on Friday. Kudos to the Redwings on a well earned victory.

Oddly enough 2011 at Benedictine against Benet. They experimented in the first half of that game and then let Ty Isaac out of the stable to run.

FE is football enrollment.they stopped using it after 07 season.but you take the schools enrollment and average it with your opponents.I think it's great it's gives a representation of who you play all season and your actual enrollment.they used to drop the highest and lowest enrollment of teams you would play.for example with FE , JC was 6A. In the 90s JC was 5A often in 6 class system as they would open with MC NN
