Many school Superintendents in Kentucky have announced they are making mask optional for children, going directly against recommendations of king Andy and department of education commissioner Jason glass. The rumor has it that a mask mandate will soon be coming out of Frankfort…

With that said, here are the facts:

Governor Beshear can do this until we get the ruling from the Supreme Court . The bill allows him executive order privileges for 30 days, on any order, but the order can’t go past 30 days unless it is approved by the General Assembly. He would have to call a special session at a cost of $60,000 plus per day. He knows that at the cost, since there is a super majority, they would vote to end the majority of his orders. Up to this point he has been making recommendations because there is an injunction per Boone County ruling saying he can’t issue mandates any more.

In addition, 4 of the Supreme Court positions are up for re-election.

You decide the rest of the story….

Warren county has already said no. Imo, he has no power to enforce them anyway.

Because you could make it optional and keep schools open and kids in the classroom?

My kids school in Jefferson County has already said they will ignore any potential mandate and to leave the masks at home unless you want your child to wear one. This time, I don't think it will matter what Daddy Andy does, people are done with this stupidity.
Never underestimate the level of people's willingness to be willingly ignorant

337 deaths ages 0-17 from covid. That’s not a justification for mask mandates for school kids. Everyone has had a chance to get the vaccine if they want it.

Make it optional and move on.

I despise charts like this. Once you use the phrase "involving Covid" it becomes useless data. Dying while having covid, which describes the huge majority of those kids, is NOT the same thing as dying from covid.

Lots of data out there demonstrating kids are not at risk and the flu is FAR deadlier in that age range. Yet the "follow the science" crowd refuses to acknowledge that science.

True. I don’t disagree with you. I was presenting their own data to show that even by their own data measurements there is no justification for young kids being forced to wear masks.

I assume this is a Catholic or private school? JCPS already voted and said they were requiring masks for everyone.

I don't necessarily agree with the decision, and my son is not pleased to have to wear a mask all day. I'm sure teachers aren't excited to spend an entire year being the mask police either.

That said, who cares really? It's just a stupid mask. Are we still outraged by masks? I've got more important **** to worry about.

It's a private school. I wouldn't put my kids through JCPS if you paid me.

It's not just a mask at all. My oldest came home with constant headaches last year due to wearing it outside for recess and gym class. It's a major distraction in the classroom, it causes social anxiety with some, but the biggest thing for me is the principle of it. Its punishing the innocent and helpless just because they can. NOTHING out there supports children wearing masks. In fact, there isn't much data to suggest the masks do much for adults, but kids are not in danger in the first place.

Our children have become political pawns and many are sick of it. **** has to stop. I don't want my kids wearing masks their whole childhood. If we keep letting these politicians get away with this, that is precisely what will happen.

One last note, there isn't anything in my life worth worrying about more than my children and their well being. They've already lost out on so much, for absolutely no reason. Time to stop allowing the politically corrupt abuse them.

Nice strawman, but I'm not biting.

I'm with you that kids have missed out on a lot the past year. I'm just happy to have them back in real classes. Masks are an annoyance, not an existential crisis. Your kids will be fine just as mine will be.

When this was discussed pre-vaccine, people decried that “every life counts, and is important.” When you discuss the fact that people have died after receiving the vaccine, the same people often ask, “do you know what a low percentage that is compared to all of the people who have received the vaccine?”

Haha, if you think school closures aren't on the horizon, you aren't paying attention. Masks are just step 1...

Nope.

They will be so overrun with non compliance at the high school level that they’ll give up enforcement.

It will take too much time out of the day to deal with it.

Like you say, there are much more important things to worry about than mask compliance.

My youngest has one extracurricular holding his interest in public school.

He’s done caring and he’s not alone.

Also nothing strawman about it. I gave examples why there are in fact people who care about the masks. You've chosen to ignore those completely.
I get you personally don't care, good for you. I believe you are wrong to be so indifferent. So to each their own.

It absolutely was a strawman, but I'm not trying to argue with you about it. Agree to disagree. Have a good one.

Those of you ok with masking, are you also ok if they decide they need to test your kid while at school if school nurse says it’s needed to save lives? See below..$134 million given to Kentucky schools and Steven stack (beshear doctor buddy at press conferences) encourages schools to “explore” setting up a Covid testing program. You give them an inch they will take a mile…just be careful what you are “ok” with today because tomorrow is a different story. At what point do you say stop?

My kid was in the classroom nearly every day last year. When I mentioned she might have to wear the mask again this year, her reaction was nbd.
