I've been a fan since the thrash days, and I was pleasantly surprised by this album especially considering my lowered expectations over the years. (I didn't like the Loads or St. Anger and Death Magnetic was just OK, IMO.). The only tracks I don't like from Hardwired are Manunkind and Dream No More. Spit Out the Bone, Moth Into Flame and Here Comes Revenge are my favorites.

As a random side post, I stumbled on these videos where a fan recreated the new songs as if they were on old albums. (Instrumental only)

I'm surprised you don't like Dream No More, it reminds me of Sad But True mixed with The Thing That Should Not Be. I agree about ManUNkind, I like the middle part of the song but its probably my least favorite. I used to not like Murder One at first, but its grown on me, its a solid tribute song.

These are my top 5 songs at the moment not in any order as it could change almost hourly
1.Spit out the bone
2. Now that were dead
3. Halo on fire
4. Dream no more
5. Moth into flame

Thanks for the videos. Spit kind of sounds like a song that could've been on the original Justice. Good stuff.

Never could listen to these guys because of the god awful name but I peeped "We Own the Night" as a rec and I'm digging them. The harsh vocalist is definitely giving me a Hawthorne Heights vibe (which isn't the best thing) but the guitar work and overall sound is similar to The Sound of Animals Fighting/Circa Survive which I can definitely get behind.

My top 5:

Gojira - Magma
Fallujah - Dreamless
After the Burial - Dig Deep
Red Fang - Only Ghosts
Badbadnotgood - IV

Spot on in the assessment. Jon Mess is not a great unclean vocalist. But after almost a decade, I can't see him NOT being apart of DGD. Those guys as a whole can really wail. Lots of intricate stuff. Wish Johnny Craig was still in the band, he was their best clean vocalist IMO.

Any band that can blend genres peaks my interest. DGD can go from funk to Hip-hop to mathcore to blues. Amazing.

Nice to see someone in the Paddock with some post-hardcore pop-punk knowledge.

You heard of Twelve Foot Ninja? No Pop-Punk or Post-Hardcore but I would really struggle to find another band that blends genres better than these guys. I occasionally dislike the Djenty-Nu Metal aspects of their work.

I listened to some of the stuff with Johnny Craig and prefer Tilian. Neither are bad at all and both fit the sound. It appears Will was doing the harsh vocals early on? That's pretty awesome. Any time I can find a band with some crazy prog and upper octave singing, I'm in. Favorite band is The Mars Volta.

Love the Mars Volta. Didn't care much for that last spin off album by Antemasque or whatever it was called. I have heard there is a new Mars Volta album in the works though. Looking forward to that one.

Hahaha, so weird. But technically speaking, awesome.

How about some Fall of Troy?

FOT's comeback record "OK" was pretty lit.

It's funny, I'm 30 now, but thought I was super ghetto until college, so maybe.. 20. The first rock bands I ever listened to were RHCP and Incubus... at like 22. Waaaaaay late to the game. And a buddy of mind, who was really out there, was a MV fan..but that type of music (and DGD for that matter) was way too off the wall for me then.

I'm gonna have to give MV another try.

@LineSkiCat14 A friend in college recommended them. I listened to to "Cut Down all the Trees and Name the Streets After Them". Been a fan ever since. What Thomas Erak is capable of playing and singing at the same time is insane. Didn't follow him when he played in "Just Like Vinyl" but glad to see he re-formed Fall of Troy. I actually bought OK and consider it right up there with my other top 5. As for the Mars Volta, start with Deloused in the Comatorium. Listen from beginning to end without stopping. Each of their first two albums are concept albums and you lose something if you jump in at Eriatarka, etc. Son et Lumiere all the way through man, that's my best recommendation. Also, if you are big on RHCP, Flea actually played bass for them and some horn parts for that album. They also toured with them quite a bit. RHCP is the main reason TMV got big.

@Kaizer Sosay I bought their album under the name The Antemasque because I wanted more of The Mars Volta but it wasn't what I was expecting. Turns out they wanted to get away from TMV as much as they wanted to get away from At the Drive-In. I know they are doing a new album with At the Drive-In but have not heard anything about TMV getting back together. One of the longest standing members, Ikey Owens, died recently so I don't know if they will ever do it. In my mind, they had 4 great albums (Deloused through TBIG), anything after that is them getting sick of TMV and putting out really experimental garbage that was "meh" at best.

Yeah, i bought the Antemasque album under the same pretense. And it was decent i guess…but like you said it wasn't what i expected.

I know they are extending their ATDI tour in 2017. But i thought i read/heard somewhere that they were talking about doing another album under TMV flag within the next year. Like they already had some of the material in the works. Maybe they were talking about an ATDI album and i wasn't paying attention. That happens sometimes.

BTW…I was/am a huge ATDI fan as well. Two of my all-time favorite songs (of any genre) are One Armed Scissor and Enfilade. Both songs are full of pure awesomeness.

Hello, Mother Leopard...I have your cub. You must protect her…but that will be expensive. Ten thousand call-in notes…wrapped in brown paper…midnight…behind the box…I'll be the hyena…you'll see…

Childish Gambino - "Awaken, My Love"

His wordplay on the rap tracks was cool and all, but this is one of the best funk albums in a long time. Also, 'Atlanta' was the best show of 2016. Donald Glover is a talented sob.

Spit Out The Bone is amazing. But my favorite song on the album changes almost daily.

Its the perfect mix of all of their albums basically. Theres Load type songs on it, theres slow heavy songs on it, and killer thrash songs on it. I love it.

Hetfield sounds maybe the best he ever has. Lars drumming was fantastic. Even though Kirk still has the wah wah thing a lot, in general his solos were fairly good throughout. And Rob was solid as usual. Fantastic album.

The main riff in Spit Out The Bone is so good. I honestly think it's one of Hetfield's best riffs ever. It's hard to believe he still has it after all these years. Also, the last two minutes or so of Halo On Fire might be my favorite part of the album. The buildup and the lead melody are fantastic.

That Pinegrove song that leads this thread is utterly awful.

Jesus. Awful.

Appreciate you giving it a shot. That first song probably isn't the best choice to get someone into them in retrospect. They've got some varied sounds though, you might prefer one of these:

They've got their alt-country side, but got some indie rock and tinge of math rock sound too in some of their songs. I'm trying to push em on folks since their my favorite find this year.

I like Sturgill's stuff, but his new record is a damn far sight from good, much less "great." It doesn't even hold a candle to his previous 2. I laugh at the entries here as I've yet to find a good album from 2016. Dwight's newest might qualify, but remakes and covers are always a real pisser after a few days. The best new album in 10 years was Royal Blood and good effing luck touching that level of skill.
Yes. Basically. New music that is better than the current **** that's already out there does not equate to "greatness." This is how standards are whittled away.
