What say you?
I always liked Roberto Pereira. Stevie Ray Vaughan was tough to beat. Depends on what flavor you like. Metal? Lots of dudes. I can’t say one sticks out to me. Classic rock? Loved Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. Lots of great guitarists. Willie Nelson was under rated as a younger guy on guitar. Not one of the greats maybe but memorable. Saw him in 1981 or so in Columbia MO. Had great seats close to the stage. Roy Clark was one of the best.

This guy's name is Dave Simpson, and is probably whom I consider the 'best guitarist' out there today. You can find his videos on youtube and in each video, he usually has a section where he just plays, and literally, it's like a fire hose of goodness that comes out of this guys hands.

Here is a link to his youtube channel

and here is a little something to take you on a trip

Roy Clark, Nuno Bettencourt and Lindsey Buckingham..Prince could step into any genre and make a guitar “Gently Weep”. 😉

The fact none of you mentioned Taylor Swift tells me none of you know music. She even had teardrops on her guitar at one point.

Best Rythme Guitarist - Cory Wong
Best Technical Guitarist - Kim Jin San
Best Bassist - Charles Berthoud (No one is close not even Victor Wooten)
Best Drummer - Most will say Neil Peart from rush, but the truth is a guy from a bad called Dirty Loop's named Aron Mellergard

Dave Simpson Trio covering Rory Gallagher's "Bad Penny" is sensational.

I’ve never really liked any of Hendrix’s stuff. I’m not really knowledgeable about what makes a guitarist great. I just like what I like. Really surprised this thread has gone this long without mention of the old guy playing We Will Rock You on American Idol …..🤷‍♂️

SO MANY great musicians that 99.9999% of the listening public will never know. Probably 20 years ago my wife drug me to a Garth Brooks concert up in Sioux Falls. The best part of the entire show was when he took a break and turned it over to his backup band. The percussionist was INSANE! I find myself watching the backup artists the rare times I go to concerts. Our friends coerced us in to going up to a Little Big Town concert once again in Sioux Falls a few years ago. Maybe the set I liked best they pulled one of their roadies up on stage and had him play a few songs. That guy has been toting amps and instruments around for years. Amazing guitarist.

Everyone naming guys that are insane technical players. (But also name Jimi because they feel they have too, even though technically he wasn't that great)

Give me guys that can write a riff. Rarely that's a guy with chops as well.

Hendrix
Hetfield
Tom Morello
Tony Iommi
Jimmy Page

Robert Cray still puts on a fantastic show. If you get a chance to see him before he retires, don’t pass it up.

Most people probably would not put Cray in their very top tier of guitarists. But when you combine his guitar skills with that magnificent voice, it’s a load of talent to behold.

Hendrix (by far)
Dickey Betts
Eddie

As far drummers, Jeff Porcaro may not have been flashy, but it is hard to find a top-selling album in the late 70s/80s he didn't contribute to.
