Marist Glenbard North 2009 was a crazy back and forth game, Marist kicks field goal as time expires to advance to state where they got demolished by Matt Perez and Maine South. That MC LWE was also crazy.

2014 HF vs Simeon @ Gately. HF just couldn't put Simeon away and survived on a deflected pass on the goal-line at the end of regulation to win 35-28 and go on to face Stevenson in the 8A finals.

My youngest was on the CoM team the year of the Fog Bowl. Another semi I saw was at CoM, I was at the north end zone and heard Venegoni yell when he broke his leg.

2000 4A semi JCA vs. Pontiac. Pontiac scored a late TD to tie the game at 20. JCA blocked the extra point. JR Z broke a 70-plus yard run with little time remaining to put the Hilltoppers up 26-20. The 2-pt conversion made the final 28-20. It was also the coldest game I've ever attended.

MS 24 Fenwick 21 OT 1995
Fenwick had 10 plays in overtime and could not score on MS.

MS 29 LA 22 2010
Anyone who witnessed this game is probably still in awe of how MS came back to win this game.

MS-LA 2009 (this LA defense is still the best HS defense I've ever seen)

Coldest for me are also semi's: '13 at Edwardsville and '04 PC at Gately. I was not at these games but I have heard that '89 5A semi v Richwoods and '87 6A semi at EStL were a tad colder. Also heard '95 5A round 2 at Boylan was almost as bad as EStL.

1989 MC vs Richwoods. MC Blocks the EP and wins 7-6.

1994 Rita vs Palatine. Rita refuses to use their kicker (JJ Standring?) late in the game for a FG try and game goes to OT and they lose. I really thought some Rita fans were going to go after TW after that game.

Yes, I think he broke a long TD-run the first time he touched the ball. He had blazing speed.
But he couldn't catch JR on that long TD at the end!! Great game....and man was it cold

1992 5A JC beat MC 13-11 at Memorial Stadium. Another cold one. It was a rematch of week one in which the Caravan ran all over the Hilltoppers. This was a defensive battle in which Matt Larson ran over a MC LB on a long TD run to make it 13-3. MC scored a late TD to close it to 13-11. Great battle between two powers. JC went on to lose to WWS in the finals in 2 OT's the following week in what is one of the greatest championship games ever

I was also at that 94 Palatine SR semi. Can still hear the beer bottles clanging from SR side as they were dropped from bleachers during game.

Mount Carmel at Lincoln-Way East 2006. Hype and hoopla. I hate the North end zone in Frankfort forever because of that game. Griffins marching band will never set up there because of that game. I think the hype that the newspapers (you remember those) fueled the pre-game buildup. Edgy board was way more active back then as well.

If he had ten more yards he would have got him. I remember running to my car after that and I couldn't feel my feet.

The disappointment of that game equaled the joy from the week before after finally beating MC.

88 MC-SR semi wasn't that dramatic but I can't imagine a better atmosphere and setting for 2 inner city south side schools.

In 1992 the great game for JCA was in the quarterfinals. Bloomington led by QB Billy Dicken went up 24-7 (I believe). The receiver shook the ball at the defenders as he crossed the goal line. JCA came roaring back for the 31-24 win.
The following week they beat MC 13-11 before losing in the finals to WWS.

Shocking that two of the coldest games mentioned were the furthest south. Stl, as the usual bottom swoop of the jet stream, is a different climate than Chicago.

ah yes it is. but 2013 esl v dogz bright sunny 43-45degree day looked like it was going to be perfect day for some great football. it was matched up to be a barn burner. 2 explosive offenses and 2 dynamic defenses. esl coming off a big win against provi. dogz off an ot win v lwn, from the start you could cut the tensions with a knife. each team was trying to show their air authority, speed. but the defenses came up big each time. esl clinging to 6-0 score and as the sun started go down and the winds began to swirl. it became more an more evident it was going to be very hard to throw the ball. and then dogz passed into the endzone a little floater, it appeared to be going out of bounds, and the winds brought it back towards the receiver and esl defender had to just knock the receiver out of bounds getting a pass interference called against him. giving the dogz new life. dogz score td pat is good dogz go up 7-6. the winds on the field made little tornandos, the temp dropped and I do not think anyone was prepared for how cold it actually got. people were literally huddling up together. my feet were absolutely numb to the point of pain to walk. they hurt worse once I got in the car and they started to thaw and throb. but the long ride home was an joyous one.
the best stadiums you have been in.
esl is fine place to play going thru the corridors and seeing the oldtime players on the walls. the history there is great. the hospitality is awesome.
rock island probably one of the greatest stadiums you will ever play in. and their hospitality is amazing.
memorial stadium in Joliet is a great venue now with the big jumbo tron showing replays, is just very cool atmosphere to be in for these kids to experience.
so no I do not mind travelling and I think it is absolutely great that they get to see these places. because most will never get that experience ever again.
ah nothing better than high school football.
and good luck to each remaining team this weekend.

2003 Semi - DuQuoin at Wilmo. The smack talk coming from the DQ fans was at a fever pitch. They were confident it was over before it even started. The fireworks went off, the motorcycles came out, and not much longer after the game itself was over. Never seen people shut up so fast.
