I've never hit a woman and would like to think I never would, but damn. I think that guy was excessive in this circumstance, but there are instances of girl gangs beating the crap out of random people on the street, and I would probably have to break my rule pretty quick if they ever got the jump on me.
Bottom line here - Darwin strikes again for the young woman. Bet she thinks twice next time.

You either believe in equal rights between the sexes or you don't. If a woman assaults me I'm going to defend myself by whatever means I feel necessary. She's not going to get special treatment from me because she has a ******. Some of you have lived sheltered lives and have never had to deal with trashy women. Go follow a cop or security guard around for a couple days. A woman can hurt or kill you just as easily as a man while you are trying to "hold her down". That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Fine if you just think that's your last option. It didn't seem like his last option to me. He also wasn't discouraging it either. And the people on the bus are fairly trashy as well for egging it on.

Saw a guy at The Endzone in Hattiesburg get punched several times by a girl. He grabbed her and was holding her down. She somehow hit him in the nuts and got out of his grasp. She then grabbed a beer bottle and smashed it over his head. She reached for the next bottle. He had a giant stream of blood coming down one side of his face when he saw the next swing of the bottle coming. He ducked it and then knocked her out cold.
She was arrested and he got nothing but stitches.
Those of you thinking there is NEVER a situation that could arise requiring you to fully defend yourself are part of the problem with this country. You paint the world in black and white and then stick your heads in the sand.
The guy in this bus case should have taken many more steps to get away from this situation. I agree you should do everything in your power to not hit a woman, but sometimes real life happens instead of the fantasy world some of you live in.

Watch Jimmy Caan in the movie "Misery". It'll make you wanna hit a *****. Of course it's make believe, but when he slammed that typewriter on her fat head and yelled "...you sick twisted *****!"...I cheered.

The bus drivers temper got the best of him, but anyone on this planet should realize that if you spit and hit someone in the face, you are at the mercy of their temper. He lost it. But then again, he probably came from the old school. In the old school, you cross the line once and only once, no matter who you are. As DerHntr says, yes there were many more steps from the new school on what to do in that situation. As Chris Rock says, "I'd never hit a woman, but I sure as hell would SHAKE her!".

C34 mentioned 1940's white southern belles. In the 1940's, a man could smack his wife and no one would do anything about it - not the police or the neighbors. Movies of that time regularly showed men slapping women and no one was appalled or shocked. Men with names like Cagney, Grant, Bogart, Stewart and even John Wayne. Very few people would consider those men to not be masculine.
I wonder what the men of the past would think of us now. Throughout the history of the world, before the 1960's and 70's, I'm quite sure hitting woman was viewed a lot different than it is today.

I don't think holding this girl for 5 or 10 minutes while waiting for the cops would be practical and probably highly dangerous. Not a good situation for the driver.

I witnessed a cop beat the **** out of a girl (high school age). At a party on the beach, the cops were called to break up the party due to underage drinking. Several patrolmen and a K9 unit showed up. The police we arresting one of the drunken idoits who couldn't keep his mouth shut. This girl got pissed because it was her boyfriend and in a stupid drunken moment, she ran up and kicked the police dog up under his jaw with everything she had. (uppercut style). All of a sudden several cops rushed over and threw this chick to the ground on the street. 17'd her face up. She was also arrested and taken away. she didn't realize that K9's are considered to be policeman. Never assult a policeman. Stupid *****. On monday, she was the talk of the school.
.....so you're defending slapping women when they give you lip, but not giving her the fisticuffs when they threaten you.... Yeah... I hope you are alone on that.

Not at all. I've already posted that I don't think you can hit a woman ever. It's just a lose-lose. But I don't think anyone would disagree that slapping a woman, while bad, is on the same level with going all Bald Bull on her.
