Who makes a better fit in Mullen's Offense, Wesley Carroll or Tyler Russell? Here is the numbers.......
Wesley Carroll:

then I'm 6'10. Carroll also had the arm strength of a toddler. I'll take Russell.

I think Dan can fit his offense around whoever- and I think he can fit it around both Carroll and Tyler.

What's different is the strengths of the two, and also the personnel is variable as well.

This really isn't rocket science- you fit what you do around your players.

Since we're not in a place like Texas, Florida, Georgia, or California where we have just an abundance of players to choose from and we're not Alabama where we can get every top flight player that we want, we have to take the very best players that we can, and we can't afford to be too choosey. Once we get the players in, then we base what we do around them. That may mean that we run it more some years, and that also may mean that we may throw it more some years.

Now, if the question is who would I rather have at QB, I would take my chances with Russell.

I'm not disagreeing with you. But I still believe he was a big cog in that '07 season....he made some plays, completed some big throws, made some clutch runs and didn't turn the ball over. He got some Croom coaching and just got terrible. Who knows. But the only thing that changed from Croom's sucky teams and that one decent one was the QB, from Furboy to Carroll. I wish Mullen had had a chance with him last year.

I think he is a below average QB, though. He does have his team in first place in the Sun Belt. They have a couple of big games left, we'll see how they and he do.

He has 13 TD passes and 12 INT's on the year, and we'll see how he does as a senior.

The thing about Carroll in 2007 is he didn't turn the ball over for most of the year. That was the biggest thing that he brought to the table.

We rode our defense and AD that year pretty much.

Nobody else could.

But yeah, the longer he spent getting coached by Croom & company, the worse he got.

I don't know if you can honestly call Wesley Carroll a below average QB. That 2007 season he had was pretty awesome. He made a terrible coach coach looklike the savior of Mississippi Stateand as a result croomended up winning SECcoach of the year. I will agree with you on one point, croom-dogruined carroll. I just think if Mullen could have spent some time with him, we might havea functional two Quarterback system versus having to watchTyler Russell throw pick after pick againstSEC defenses.</p>

Wes Carroll was average at best in 2007 (and that's giving him a huge benefit of the doubt). A lot of people have very selective memory of that season. We won in spite of Carroll more than we won because of him.
